Upgrading wired ethernet adapter on Inspiron 17R
I'm pretty disappointed that the wired ethernet adapter that came stock with my Inspiron 17R (core i7 laptop) is only capable of 100mbps fast ethernet.
Is there a way that I can upgrade the internal ethernet adapter to gigabit? My 8 year old Dell desktop has gigabit ethernet capabilities. I don't know what Dell was thinking when they did this.
I am well aware of USB dongles that provide gigabit ethernet but I use all my usb ports all the time and can't afford to dedicate one of them to ethernet.
Let me know if there is a part that I can buy and install it myself.

There's no way other than USB to do it - you'd need to use a USB 3.0 adapter.

One of the manuals I downloaded for my Inspiron 7720/17R SE shows how to remove the Lan card from the laptop. Why can't Dell sell an upgraded card that I could replace my 100Mb card with? With all the features this laptop has saddling it with this slow ethernet connection makes no sense.

Hi,
I have a 7720 17R with the 1080p screen and the 1TB + 32G mSATA. According to the packing list it has a 430-3605 network. The OS reports a 10/100 link. Since it is a 17R 7720, can I upgrade the network card?
BTW, I did get an ASIX USB 3.0 dongle and that is certainly faster than the 100Mb. When copying large files, the OS reports about 20% link utilization and about 19MB/s.
