Dell E207WFP Monitor, HDMI out to DVI in

Hi all, I am attempting to connect my monitor to my laptop in order to use a dual monitor system.

I am using a HDMI to DVI cable, and my laptop detects the monitor correctly and suggest the optimum res. etc etc...

However the monitor only displays the floating "Self Testing" dialog.

-I have set the laptop to "extend the display" so I am not forcing the monitor to use a res it doesn't like.

-I have also got the monitor set to receive on the "Digital" input.

I have successfully connected my laptop to a LCD TV in the past with HDMI to HDMI, but with my Dell monitor I am not having any luck.

Hope you can offer some suggestions!

Thanks, Mitch

Hi Mitch,

In order to isolate if the problem is with the monitor follow the steps below:

  1. Connect the monitor and try using it in Clone Mode rather than Extended Mode and see if you get video.
  2. As you have mentioned you didn’t change the resolution, I would recommend changing the resolution to one of the below mentioned supported resolutions:

    720 x 400
    640 x 488
    800 x 600
    1024 x 768
    1152 x 864
    1280 x 1024
    1680 x 1050

  3. If the above two steps don’t work try updating the video card driver for the laptop graphics card.
  4. Also check this HDMI to DVI cable with a different video source (if possible), if it doesn’t work fine, try changing the cable.

If any of the above doesn’t work, reply with the details of the Laptop Model that you are trying to connect to.

Do reply with results.
