XPS 14" internal mic crackle
Hi there,
I'm a proud owner of a Dell XPS 14" (L421x) but i've been having some issue's with the internal stereo-microphone.
When I for example record something in windows sound recorder, or a more professional program such as Cubase or Adobe Audition the recorded audio gives loud clicks.... crackle dunno what's the right name for it.
I've installed three different drivers for the Realtek HD audio device, set the system to different Sample Rate en bit depth, but nothing seems to help.
Drivers i've tried are:
1: the default windows drivers when you've installed win 7 ultimate
2: dell provided drivers from their website
3: from Realtek's website newest HD Audio Drivers
My current driver version is: 6.1.7601.17514
I've made a recording of it so you can hear what i mean:

Thanks

Hi Ed,
Thank you for giving information about the issue in detail and for the audio recording.
I would like to know if there is crackling noise while playing the recorded music only or if there is noise even while playing online music or the music that is stored on the system. Please check if there is cracking noise on external speakers as well.
I understand that audio driver is updated, however I request you to update the below given drivers in the same order given below:
BIOS: http://dell.to/YHdEaZ
Chipset: http://dell.to/Z1hf1D
Audio: http://dell.to/15S3FCZ
Note: While flashing BIOS connect the Ac adapter and make sure the battery has minimum 15% charge as this needs uninterrupted power supply. Do not use the system till it restarts and comes up to the desktop. Restart the system was after each driver installation.

Hi Sujatha,
Thank you for you reply on my post
I've done all the stept you told me to do, also in this order, but unfortenatly it didn't solve anything at all.
I also have audio ticks in playback for other audio files, normal mp3 songs. They're much softer than the ticks from the internal microphone recordings.
but they're there.
I've tried ASIO4ALL in Cubase, this uses a different driver-method and runs directly to the audio-device itself without using windows-related-audio-software. but also no succes...
The reason i bought this laptop is for audio engineering purposes, so it's quite annoying :-(
Any other thought ?
Ed
