Having trouble since upgrade to windows 8.

My
computer is a Precision T7400 and came with both XP and a disk for Vista sp1
32bit.  the XP Pro sp3 disk that came with it does not say if it is a
32 or 64 bit version – If I have to run an older operating system I wonder if
the xp can be 64bit.

I have 4 gigs of ram. I do have Execute Disable Bit in my security settings.

My bios have been updated to T7400A11.bin
not sure is a12 is now available.  I remember talking to a dell tech and he mentioned a bios that was not listed on the update driver page but could be found in search but now I cant even find the current bios on that search page.

Since upgrade to windows 8 pro I cant upgrade my driver for my nvidia nvs 290
on that site because my computer wont start after.  It no longer lets me use 3D in photo
shop.  I cant install adobe acrobat pro
from adobe cloud.

I did order the windows I pro on disk in hope that running as a 64 bit would
help but am starting to think I should just return it.

any help would be great.

 Thank you

Tom

The disk you ordered is still an upgrade disk and an unnecessary expense. Send it back since it is no different that what you already installed. All the disks available at retail are upgrade disks and you must have win 7 or earlier installed to use it. The only full version is the OEM System Builder version available from some online sellers that is not supported by microsoft. That is for home built computers. You should not use that on an old computer.

You decide whether upgrading is worth it. I would go back to your previous OS. You can save the upgrade key to use on another computer. Keep the email receipt with the activation key and order number.

I´ve got a XPS M1350, and since I've upgraded windows vista to windows 8 I',m not able to do almost anything with Dell Support Center. When I try to update drivers it looks for Vista drivers and doesn't get I´ve windows 8 (!), when I run some driver new there I get "SE_ERR_ACCESSDENIED", when I try to run diagnostics I get "500-Server Processing Error". The Dell support for w8 is not good at all, I´m afraid.

Besides, all system runs too slow!!! HELP!!

Support Center should not be used on windows 8. No utility from earlier versions can be used on win 8. Just access Support by using your browser if you need to. You don't need to use support center anyway. Dell will not have drivers for your computer to use with windows 8. Dell does not support that model for win 8. If you need drivers for windows 8, you have to find them online or use the ones supplied by Win 8.

Generally Microsoft offer 2 choices to upgrade an OS. Upgrading via A Clean Install and Upgrading via an Upgrade (keeping all programs and previous applications etc.)

Upgrading via an upgrade can often offer awful performance, upgrading via a clean install is recommended. I had a guide for doing so but I have removed it from the Dell Community due to the difficulties with obtaining Dell Reinstallation DVDs or USBs.

With regards to Dell Support Centre it should work on Windows 8 according to here: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/services/en/dsc_home?c=us&l=en
