HIT Kit integration.

Hi,

We've recently installed the latest HIT kit (showing up as 4.0.9000) on a couple of R710s running server 2012.

Does anyone know why we have to connect up the VSS volume for the "Dell EqualLogic Storage Manager" to be "happy"? Obviously I understand the snapshots do require the VSS volume, but is it not risky to have that VSS share mounted on the host server?

We've got them set to read-only, but I'd rather not have them accissible at all if possible (given it's a system volume.

I'd be grateful for any answers to this problem.

Thanks,

Rhidian

There's no risk in having the vss-control volume connected.  VSS-Cointrol is a gateway to pass info to / from the array.  It's not a "system" volume.  You can't harm it, i.e. if you tried to format it it would fail.

Hello,

That's not really needed.  Very little data actually passes through the vss-control volume.

Hi dwilliams62, thanks for putting my mind at rest! Is it advisable to connect to it from all necessary paths?
