PowerEdge T100 - SAS 6ir RAID Controller and Fan

Hi Everyone!

We have recently upgraded an old Dell PowerEdge T100 server to support RAID 1 by adding a Dell SAS 6ir PCI-E RAID card. When we boot the server we seeing the message "Alert: Hard disk fan not detected" after the BIOS and POST during boot. We thought this was no big deal until the primary fan started to ramp up to a very annoying speed and volume.

From some preliminary research, I think we need to purchase a Dell FY606 for PowerEdge servers but I am not sure whether we will need some type of mounting bracket or not. Is there anyone that can confirm that part FY606 will fit nicely or do I need to purchase some type of mounting bracket too?

Thanks!

That is the part number I show as well in our internal tools, picture of it below

And because I like to go the extra mile, I found one of these in the lab and here is a picture. Note the location of the connector on the system board, and the fan snaps in to the case in a downward motion.

Hi Ray,

That looks awesome! I will mark you answer as perfect, but I also have one quick question because you seem to be much smarter with this than me (I am a DBA and SharePoint admin). Do you think that the primary fan on the server is being "ramped up" because the motherboard doesn't see this additional, necessary fan?

Thanks,

Mick

To be honest, I don't know for sure, but that's a logical hypothesis.  I have always wondered why this system and the

T105 needed the extra fan, but if they programmed the system to complain about the missing fan, I bet they programmed the fan to speed up as compensation.
