Dell m4700 IPS screen problem

Hello. I recently bought refurbished precision m4700 laptop and it has a strange problem with the screen (panel LG Philips LP156WF3 - IPS 10bit-color).  Gradients on the screen spilt into strips and dots (even in windows welcome logo and bios). Changing color gamut in premier color application affect their position in the image, switching to 40hz refresh rate too. Latest quadro drivers are installed. External 30-bit color monitor connected via display port works great. I know about tint problem in this panel (my screen has a very small tint and this isn't critical for me), but this blinking lines and dots are really annoying. Is it some software issue or i need to change this panel ?

Some photos of my screen:

Hi iiss,

There seems to be problem with the LCD screen on your computer to confirm we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

  1. Turn of the computer.
  2. Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
  3. You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the vertical or horizontal lines are appearing on the screen.

If you see the vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen while the LCD bist is running you will have to replace the LCD.

Thanks for quick reply! I've performed self-test as you wrote several times and nothing appears, No lines, dots, whatsever. Any other suggestions? Bios is updated to the last version. I've tried to boot livecd and got the same problems (gradients are affected most, cursor's shadow for expamle).

Hi iiss,

The display seems to be fine since you have run the LCD BIST test on the screen .You are getting the display on the monitor from the system so the video card is also fine. It should be an issue with the port on the motherboard or the LCD assembly cable.

I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the LCD works.

Also, Please send me a private message with the computer's service tag let me check what can be done. To send a private message, click on my name and select start conversation.

Please revert with the results.

Hi,

Just bought referbished M4700 from the Dell outlet. My screen has the same problem; faint diagonal lines that move continuously across the screen from bottom left to top right. Most noticeable on white or light backgrounds and from certain viewing angles.

Screen and connectors etc. have been replaced by Dell service technician but the problem remains. Latest AMD drivers installed but still the problem remains. No lines visible when starting up holding D and start together to get the plain colour screens.

Service support call remains open on this matter with Dell. Looks from your posts as if this isn't an isolated problem. I have other laptops and display screens that have never displayed this problem. Very annoying when I use CAD 10 hours-a-day.

Any clues please.

Thank you.
