S2340T not detected after installing Windows 8.1

The device manager and Windows 8.1 do not detect my S2340T monitor. It worked fine with Windows 8. I have it attached via an HDMI cable and the input is set to HDMI. I also have the computer connected via a VGA cable to a TV. When the TV input is set to PC and the S2340T is off, I can see the display on the TV. But if I turn on the S2340T, I get a blank screen on both the TV and the monitor. I've looked for Windows 8.1 drivers on support.dell.com, but cannot find them. Windows Device Manager notes that all my drivers are up to date. Can anyone help? I'm very frustrated. Thanks in advance!

Lauriemol,

The DDM (Dell Displays Manager) does not support Windows 8.1. So if you loaded the DDM, uninstall it, then reboot the computer.

This S2340T driver ( DELL_S2340T-MONITOR_A00-00_0N9PX.exe) states it has support for:
MS Windows 7 32-bit
MS Windows 7 64-bit
MS Windows 8 32-bit
MS Windows 8 64-bit
MS Windows 8.1 32-bit
MS Windows 8.1 64-bit

I uninstalled DDM and installed the drivers. The monitor is now working. However, I have no touch support. My video card doesn't have a Windows 8.1 driver. Could this be impacting touch? Or will touch simply not work on Windows 8.1? If it doesn't now, will Dell support Win 8.1 soon?

* No.

* This 8.1 problem has been escalated. This will take some time. My guess is that we will have to contact Microsoft.

We tested an Inspiron 14R + Windows 8.1 + S2340T via HDMI. Both were powered on. We hot connected the HDMI cable from the S2340T to the Inspiron 14R HDMI port. The Device Manager added under Monitor a generic listing. We did not install the INF.

We then hot connected the S2340T USB upstream cable to the USB port on the Inspiron 14R. The Device Manager added the following:

Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Two Generic USB Hub
One USB Compisite Device

Imaging Devices
DELL S2340T Webcam

Touch functionality worked great on the S2340T.

With my XPS 8500 running, I unplugged the HDMI cable, waited a few seconds, and replugged it. Now my Dell S2340T touch screen is working fine.

To doublecheck, I shut down and restarted, and the functionality is still there.

Dell S2340T:

I had the same problem, the computer was not recognizing the monitor.  Here is the answer (at least for me):

I just discovered something amazing: when I connect from my computer (a new MS Surface Pro 2) DIRECTLY to the monitor (and NOT thru a USB hub, a powered at that, which is what I was doing), the problem disappeared.  In other words, the issue is signal strength, ie voltage, to the unit, it is not a digital issue at all!

Good luck!

Same Issue: I have a S2340Tt monitor that will no longer work with my XPS 12 laptop. This problem began IMMEDIATELY after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.

After installing drivers and talking to Microsoft and Dell, I have found no help. I know this is not a hardware problem, or a problem with the USB cable as I was just told by a Dell representative. I also have learned that I can't move back to Windows 8.

Since I have the XPS 12, I must use the USB connection to the monitor; I can't use HDMI,

Can anyone provide some help?

My only suggestion is the one I gave at the end of January: connect directly from the computer to the S2340T, not thru a USB hub.  In your case, I would use the shortest possible cable, as I believe the issue is the signal level at the monitor - for some reason it 'needs' to see a somewhat higher voltage than other monitors.

Curiously, I had not had a recurrence of this issue since I removed the hub, until today (when I cold booted)!  I had to reboot the computer, and then it recognized the monitor (and everything attached to the monitor, in my case an external hard drive).  Why this particular boot was defective?  No idea.

Try uninstalling all the Drivers and installing DisplayLink, this solved both problems the monitor not being recognized and also the touch screen problem. http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
