Hi,
Dell Inspiron 15r 5521 supports SATA 2 hard drives. You can purchase SATA 3 SSD drive and connect it but the drive would downgrade to SATA 2 speed.

Hi
Checked with my resources and found that Inspiron 15r 5521 is built with Mobile Intel® HM76 Express Chipset which is compatible with SATA 3 ports and SATA 2 ports. So you can connect SATA 3 ports hard drive.
