Problem With Microphone/Line Input On 8600.
Hello Members,
I have an Inspiron 8600 and love it. My problem is with the Line Input Port. I use a lighting program called Martin Light Jockey that utilizes my line input from a recording output on my mixing console. The Light Program has a module called The Martin Audio Analyzer which takes the line input and triggers my lighting cues based on the beat of the music. Unfortunately, the Line input will not come through for some reason. Dell came out & replaced the entire PC Board figuring it had to be a bad port on my laptop, although it didn't fix the problem. I know how to choose the recording method for Stereo instead of microphone in the volume control. When you activate the laptops internal microphone the sound gets through but as soon as you try to bring the line in it doesn't work. Help.....

I am having a simliar problem with my USB TV from Hauppauge. It requires a line input for the audio coming from the external device. I get no sound whatsoever even if I select the stereo mix. If this is a known issue why has it not been corrected yet? I know it will work because if u go into the sound properties and run the hardware test up until the point where it is playing the input from the port, u can get the audio from the mic/line input to play thru the speakers. It is very frustrating to purchase a $2000 notebook and try to use ur external devices only to find the hardware on the machine is faulty or buggy. Does anyone have a solution for this? I am not going to go out and pay for a USB sound card or something like that.. This issue should be resolved by Dell in some manner! I have bought and recommended Dell products for years now, but will no longer do so if common issues like this are not going to be resolved, but rather suggest I go spend more money for some external sound device.
Come on Dell.. what's the deal???

While browsing around the other threads on this issue I found a link that will allow you to download a registry file that corrects this problem. Make sure after u apply this hack that u go into ur SigmaTel properties in the control panel and disable the power mangement or the sound will cut out ever 15 seconds and u will have to click the volume level on the mixer to dring the sound back. Click the link below to make ur junky SigmaTel card work like it should.. I must say tho that the levels are now off and my volume control on the WinTV USB no longer works. I have to use the Mic level on the mixer to adjust volume.
Anyone have any idea what's up now? Come on Dell.. U can do better than this!

My associate just received his 9100 I'll ask him about the line in issue. As far as the ground loop problem with sound, use an Ebtech Hum Elininator box that will isolate the sound. You can purchase at any good music store like musiciansfrisnd.com for around $70. Good luck!!
