Warranty Questions

Hello All -

I bought a Dell Optiplex 7010 on eBay.  The item stated it was manufacturer refurbished, which to me meant it should have a warranty, but when I plugged the service tag into Dell's support site, it tells me the warranty end date is unavailable.  I spoke with Dell customer service.  They told me if I could get name of the original purchaser and shipping address, I could have warranty transferred.  I asked the seller for the information, but they refused.  I finally got out of them they bought these in a wholesale lot from Dell, which seems plausible since it shipped at the end of Novemeber.  I'm not sure they have the information either if it was a return, then they bought it.  They sold a bunch of these on eBay.

I'm planning on keeping it because it was a good price with or without the warranty, but I'd like to get if I can.    I'm not sure what's going on here, but if it was purchased in a wholesale lot, does that mean the warranty was stripped from the machine?  Is there any way I can get it reinstated?  Is there a number I can call to straighten this out?  Thanks for any help.

There is a whole lot of fraud that goes on ebay.  with service tags duplicated across hundreds and even thousands of machines.

The country you are in also matters.

Bottom line you did NOT purchase from dell and therefore do not have any warranty.

While I'm not surprised at all there's fraud on eBay, that does not mean that's the case here.  What I'd like to find out is what happened with my machine, in particular.  Dell warranties get transferred all the time, which is what I'd like to do, so buying directly from Dell is not a prerequisite for having a warranty.

Warranties are Denied from Ebay and Craigs list purchases all the time because the "Previous Owner" did not transfer the warranty to the new owner.  If you do not know the original purchaser and owner Dell will not tell you and therefore any "warranty" is null and void.

Again Which Country the owner is from also matters.

Cross Country warranties are almost ALWAYS Denied.

Aka USA to INDIA or Canada to USA etc.
