Inspiron 14z N411z power issues

I was doing homework on my computer when all of a sudden the screen started flickering and then completely shut off. I removed the battery and put it back in correctly plugged it into the wall and tried to turn it on but it would not respond. When I would plug in the power cord the light would come on to say it was charging but as soon as I would press the power button that light woiuld go off, same thing would happen every time I repeated the process. Now that light won't even turn on. Please help I am a college student who has finals next week and I need my computer!!:(

Unplug the adapter from the system and plug it into the wall outlet only.  Does the LED come on?  If not, the adapter is bad.  If it does come on, the adapter is OK.

In that case, unplug the system and remove the battery (or disconnect it if it's internal).  Hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and try powering up again.  If you don't see any improvement, the mainboard is bad and will need to be replaced.
