Venue pro 8/java&printerquestions

what is the best way to update java? It seems to have updates all the time. Is there a way to set it to just automatically update ? My printer question is I connected  an HP 5514 printer and the HP printer control shows connected but NOT installed. I tried printing a coupon which works so I just dont understand why it says not installed but printed anyway. Anyone know anything about this to clarify for me?

Hi!

Unless you have a program that actually NEEDS Java, you can safely give it the old heave-ho. I have removed it from all my PCs and my relatives PCs. I think one of the open-source Office alternatives was the last hold-out for Java. (I've since standardized on a mix of different versions of Office depending on the PC's role. 2010 is still on this computer.)

Have you done a Windows update since hooking up the printer? I recently hooked the Dell tablet up to a HP 400-series, and it downloaded the driver for it. Another arrived in Windows update the next day.

I actually have the printer shared on the network. I'll have to see if it shows on the Dell and I can print to it.

Where's it saying the printer is not installed? What do you see in Control Panel - Devices and Printers? Is there a green check-mark on the printer's icon?

I need Java because I print alot of coupons and it is a requirement. Windows seems to always be doing updates. Last night it did another update and it is still showing connected not installed. I went into devices&printerscand yes there is a green check mark. Now something else strange is happening. I have an IPAD and the airprint works most of the time but now it either says printer offline or can't find printer. I can get it to work though. I leave the Dell shut off because I do not use it daily(and battery is much better turned off) If I just turn the Dell on the airprint will work. Why is this? I can't figure this one out, can you? I do not want to have to turn on the Dell for airprint to work.Thank you
