MD1000 password reset?

My employer has recently acquired 2 powervault MD1000s and it's my job to restore them to factory defaults for sale. I've just received the password reset cable, but I can find no documentation pertaining to commands or any other reference in the manuals or online. What do I need to do to clear the passwords and/or reset these units to defaults? The source of these units is a large university who refuse to divulge any sort of information, and I do not have a Dell contract of any sort. Will Dell support assist? Have I any options here? Any input appreciated.

Hello bahauser,

On an MD1000 all the configuration is kept on a PERC card that is attached to the server like a PERC 5 or PERC 6.  So if you did get a PERC card then all you will need to do is to hit CTRL+R & that will get you into the controller card during boot up when it is checking all expansion cards & it gets to the PERC.  Once in the controller card bios then you can go to VD management & delete all virtual disks.  Also you only need the password reset cable for a MD3000 or higher unit.  Is there a MD3000 & the MD1000 is attached to it?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello breaker03,

The PS2 type port is a debug port that is used to load the factory image in production & also able to troubleshoot a controller in the factory.  It is not meant to be used outside of the factory to load or troubleshoot the EMM.
