Number Pad default setting?

I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 17 and am running Windows 8.1.

On previous laptops that I have had, when I have pressed the Number Lock key the first time, it has activated it and it has remained active no matter how many times I turned the machine on and off, which is ideal as I have several spreadsheets running, so need to enter numbers and currencies quickly. However, the Inspiron 17 loses the Number Lock memory when it is turned off, so every time I turn it back on again I have to remember to activate it again.

Does anyone know if it is possible to apply a setting that will keep the Number Lock active, ie so when I press a number key it will work no matter how many times I turn the laptop on and off?

Exactly which Inspiron 17 model ? Does it have a separate number pad?

Have you looked in BIOS setup to see if there's an option to enable the number lock by default?

And it's always better to post laptop questions in the Laptop forum. :emotion-5:

My laptop is an Inspiron 17, 5000 series with 17" monitor.

Yes it has got a separate number pad on the right hand side.

I have also posted this query in the Laptop forum, many apologies but I did not notice that there was a separate forum for laptops.

Kind regards,

Dave

Did you look in BIOS setup for the option to set the num lock to ON?
