13th Generation Drive compatibility
Are HDD drives from the 12th Generation compatible with the new 13th Generation of Servers?
In other words: Can I use Drives from a R720 in an R730? (2.5")
Can I use the drive caddies from a R720 in an R730? (2.5")
(I'd like to buy 3rd party drives)
Thanks
Michel

Hello Michel
I don't show that any of the HDDs for the R730 have been cross-validated for any non-13th generation servers. Drives that work in the R720 will likely work in the R730, but I don't show they have been validated so I can't say for sure.
The carrier will not likely work between the R720 and R730. It is a different part. I show that some of the carriers between the R730 and Precision R/T7910 are shared.
Thanks

Hi Daniel
Thanks for the Reply. I know they have not been validated, what I want to know is if the drives would physically fit.
If the 12th generation drives physically fit into the 13th generation server, then the R720 caddies can be used in R730 as well... ?

Yes, the HDDs will physically fit. Our 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs are not an abnormal size. They conform to industry standards and should fit in any system that can accommodate that size of drive.
No, the HDDs physically fitting into the servers have nothing to do with whether or not the caddies are cross-compatible. The bay that accommodates the HDD will be the same size across the caddies, but the caddies themselves are not any kind of industry standard size. Most caddies will only work in one particular system. The precision I listed above is the only other system I show that the R730 caddies work in.
Thanks

Hi Daniel
I was not talking about the physical Harddrive itself, but rather the Harddrive + Caddy.
So a DELL Harddrive from a R720 does not fit into an R730.
I'm sure you are not changing your Caddy-spec across each version / model of the servers.
You can get 3rd party Caddies fitting a wide range of Servers
So I have to wait until someone can provide me caddies working with R730's then... :(
Thanks
