Dell Backup & Recovery - System Backup

I'm a bit confused.  I've set DB&R backup to me external HDD...

...but almost all of my apps and folders on my internal HDD now the little added to the folder or program's icon.  Does this mean it's ready to be backed up, or that it's alreadry been backed up?
