Dell Inspiron 15r 7000 7537 Windows 10 install failed? (got to around 80% and now stuck on black screen)

Hi I was installing Windows 10 home on Dell Inspiron 15r 7000 7537 it got to around 80%, I looked down at my phone, looked up and then it was just a black screen...

I left it for around 3 hours and it hasn't progressed at all, its not responsive, there's no mouse cursur on screen and it doesn't respond to anything...

Any tips? I've downloaded windows 10 onto a USB incase it can help.

At the moment it seems pretty bricked...

After about another hour I was advised by someone to force power off as Dell laptops apparently sometimes hang during installation forever and Win 10 can retrieve installations.
It booted past the Dell logo and said "Retrieving installation" and back to black screen...

I tried again and it just gave up and retrieved the Windows 8.1 installation that it backed up.

May try again later.

Very sorry for repeated posts but this forum seems slightly broken when on phone and it won't allow me to choose the drop-down box to edit previous posts.

I thought this may help.

It's the error message given upon  booting back into Windows 8 after forcing it off from perpetual black screen twice.

Windows 8 loaded up to a black screen where explorer didn't work & run didn't start. All that worked was task manager.

Eventually the error message you see above came up. Upon restarting again it started up as normal.

Update,

Tried again.

Made sure everything was totally up to date in 8.1 with updates (they were) went for the upgrade option of install, this time I installed from a USB created for it.

Same thing happened.

It restarted once the drivers were at 100% installation and it's meant to move to config and settings for the last bit of the installation. Instead it's just a black screen.

I have the same problem, and it seems right now it's impossible to instal Windows 10 in that laptop. The problem seems to be something related to nvidia 750m card. In Windows 8, the last stable driver was 347.88. Newer drivers crashed the laptop. Windows 10 always install the newer driver during installation, causing the laptop to hangs, freeze and lock. I managed to finish installation, but the laptop never boot, in hangs in windows splash screen always, and event triying to enter in safe mode, it keeps freezen in the same screen.

Returning back to Windows 8 doesn't give any problem.

Just to let you k now, you're not alone
another thread here:
en.community.dell.com/.../20794133
I'm also part of 5 other threads across different forums, all the same model (7537), all the same issue (black screen, no cursor, no response, goes back to 8.1 after 2 forced restarts)
Something to do with 2 graphics cards, but not good we are all having this issue and no response from Dell

Did anyone tried disabling both  display adapters before installing windows 10?

I managed to install it today, and I explained here how I did it:

www.tenforums.com/.../9447-windows-10-black-screen-during-install-4.html

the problem is the graphic driver for nvidia 750m, but my laptop is right now working with an old driver.

Ok I managed to put Windows 10 on the laptop but not without issues.

The way you do it is begin the Windows 10 installer and then once it's downloaded disconnect from the internet so it doesn't download the nviidia driver.

The first-time I did this I chose to keeo settings and files but the laptop was painfully slow.

I  rolled it back to Windows 8.1 and did the process again but deleted apps and settings; after this it was much better.

Both times certain things like Bluetooth and Dell optimised power settings disappeared though.

In device manager there's a bunch of things it won't install or things highlighted with issues where it says they already have the best driver.

I'm a heavy user of Bluetooth so this is annoying.

Also WiFi and Ethernet didn't work until I uninstalled them in device manager and then rescanned.

I had the same issue and I've found a bios update dated June 2015 which fixed the issue of Black Screen while installing/upgrading Windows 10

maybe start a new thread?
this is about people who get black screen and no cursor, you may get more help with an appropriate subject so people read it.

To be quite honest with how its running on this laptop I would not recommend Windows 10 on it yet.

Windows 8 booted about 3x faster, became responsive at the desktop quickly and many other things worked better. Starting any new program is laggy as *** and its quite unresponsive. On my desktop Windows 10 is a massive improvement but on this laptop no...

I also miss the windows 8 snap screens and screen splitting.

The fact Bluetooth, thecard reader and many other things aren't working yet makes things a bit worse too.
