Error 1920.Service Wyse PocketCloud (WysePocketCloud) failed to start.

Error 1920.Service Wyse PocketCloud (WysePocketCloud) failed to start.

Having trouble installing WindowsCompanion on Win7 Ultimate. The installer stops with the error above when it tries to start the Wyse PocketCloud service (it starts then stops instantly).

Read through the support messages and tried what they suggested:
* enabled RDP
* allowed RDP through firewall
* added current user to Administrator group (<-triple checked this one)
* run installer as administrator
* set compatibility mode to run as administrator
* rebooted computer
* downloaded latest WindowsCompanion v2.1.11 installer

Setup Log indicates that service can't start:

Hi Suchitha,

I'm running MS Security Essentials. I've tried disabling that too. No luck yet.

Can you verify the following
1. Go to "Control panel->Administrative Tools->Services->Wyse PocketCloud" entry is available.
2. If it is available. Right click and try to start the service.

The entry is not available because the installer removes it when it fails to start the service during the installation.

During the installation, the service entry is there but when you try to start it, it stops immediately.

Was a fix ever found for this issue? I have a Windows XP SP3 box that has the exact same issue. I was just upgrading to the latest release (2.2.0). Tried installing with AV off, no go, Uninstalled everything, cleaned leftover registry entries, rebooted, disabled AV, ran installer again & same result. All XP patches up to date. Worked fine till now.

Thanks for the quick response. The computer is a stand-alone unit, not part of a domain. I believe I have solved the problem however. It looks like my .Net framework was somewhat corrupted as it showed problems in another application as well. I completely removed and re-installed all .Net versions and the installer was then able to complete properly. I also found it was very important to install the .Net versions in a specific order, not relying on .Net 3.5 SP1 to install the 2.0 & 2.0SP2 framework. I used that method at first and it didn't work, but when I re-installed the .Net versions as stand-alone 1.1, then 2.0SP2, then 3.0, and lastly 3.5SP1 it all worked again. Not sure why this is so critical, but it affects numerous applications that use the .Net framework throughout. Thanks again.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I'm hitting the same issue. This is on a fresh install of XP, and this is the first application I've tried to install after antivirus and Windows Updates. I also tried uninstalling all the .net frameworks and reinstalling in the order in the previous post, but that did not fix the issue. Are we 100% sure this is a machine issue and not a problem With the latest installer? This machine is joined to a domain, and I'm definitely an administrator on it.

Thanks in advance!!

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Can you try uninstalling the companion, disable your anti-virus, then download and install the companion again?

Are you using Windows XP? Does it have .NET 3.0 or higher installed? Can you make sure you are running the installer as a administrator and also disable your anti-virus / firewall before running the installer?

You should be able to tell from the Add/Remove programs screen. I did a little looking around and it looks like Vista came with .NET 2.0 and 3.0 frameworks.

Can you try installing the companion using the .msi installer instead of the .exe (available on our website)? Here is a link to the latest Windows companion .msi installer:

The download button is in the upper left of that page.
