Optiplex 780 MT video card question

I bought an old Optiplex780MTand I want to put a video card into. I want this to be a best bang for the buck computer. I am looking at the NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 512MB. A guy is selling them for $16 on eBay.

Will this work in my computer? Does this seem like a good card for the price? I don't want to spend over $20. I am not a gamer. I mostly want disable the on-board video so it stops using system ram.

In a thread on Toms hardware a guy explains how you can't fit a big card in this machine. The card he tried was thicker, but he also shows that length is limited as well. I have not found a measurement for this card.

Any ideas, or opinions?

Most of the cards I am looking at say a 400watt PS is needed. Any recommendations for the 780MT?

I am looking at the AMD Radeon HD 2400 Pro  256 MB PCI version not AGP.

I see some on eBay under Dell FM 349.

I saw the card in a list of cards by wattage, but I cannot find a Dell part page with specs for it.

Will this work in my 780MT?

FM349 ATI-102-b17002 ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro 256MB will work but its old and slow.  400W power supply is a red herring.  305w dell supplies work fine for up to Asus radeon 6450.  Anything less than 5450 will only use Vista drivers. The 5450 is as low as you should go if you intend to do windows 7, 8, 10 .  The Asus card works in all models of 780 except for USFF because USFF has no slots. Smaller models have 270W power supplies and still work fine.

Asus Silent EAH6450.

I ordered this one. I hope you think it will work OK. The guys at Toms Hardware thought it was a good fit for me. I think it's very similar.

That one does NOT fit in MOST dell models because the heatsink is too thick.

The slot is VERY NARROW.  If you have a Mini Tower it might fit.

Also Geforce 210 cards tend to not work at all and they are old technology soon to be End of life.

Anything less than Geforce 610 would be considered obsolete.

The 100 200 300 400 series are End of life April 2016.

Nvidia has warned that all driver package releases following Release 340, starting with Release 343, will drop support for the company's DirectX 10-exclusive GPU families in both the consumer and professional product lines. As a result, owners of said cards will be stuck on an outdated driver branch until such a time as they see fit to splash out on a hardware upgrade.

Cards affected by the move include the GeForce 8 and 9 desktop GPU families, the GeForce 100, 200, 300 and 400 desktop GPU families, the GeForce 7, 8 and 9 laptop families and the GeForce 100, 200 and 300 laptop families. Professional users will also find a range of Quadro FX, Quadro CX, Quadro Plex and a single Tesla board on the end-of-life list.

Nvidia offically END OF LIFE END OF SUPPORT in April 2016.

Wow thank you for your reply. The other guy thought that would work for me. I cancelled the order.

I think this is the same card you recommended at amazon instead of newegg:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ASUS+EAH6450+Silent%2FDI%2F1GD3%28LP%29+Radeon+HD+6450+1GB+64-Bit+DDR3+PCI+Express+2.1+x16+HDCP+Ready+Low+Profile+Ready+Video+Card+

The asus page says it uses max 75W. The reason I picked the other one was low power use. I'm looking for a card that will not be end of life as far as driver updates, has HDMI, DVI, VGA and uses the least power.

I think I'm going to buy this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Radeon-Silence-Profile-PCI-Express/dp/B004X8EO6Q/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I think it's the same as the one from new egg you recommended, but at Amazon. This has the name ATI in the title though.

I received it and put it in. Unfortunately it only raised my windows experience index to 4.5 because the lowest rating was for "Graphics: Desktop performance for windows Aero." I was hoping with 1GB of 64 bit DDR3 it would do better. I know this is a cheap card compared to what gamers use, but still.
