Windows 10 upgrade resulted in SD Card reader not working on my Latitude E6430u

After upgrading to Windows 10 my SD card reader does not work.

Anyone else have this experience? Any solutions for this and I would be very grateful.

I tried to update all the drivers for Win 10 but do not know which one is for the SD Card reader.

Thanks,

Thank you ROHE,

Maybe the SD card reader is the PCI express which passed the Dell Diagnostics - it called it the:

OZ600FJ0/OZ900FJ0/OZ600FJS SD/MMC Card Reader Controller - Is this the SD card reader and if so do I need a driver for that which might work with Win 10?

Being somewhat a novice here I do not know how to turn off the Secure Boot in Win 10?

Can you please walk me through it? I googled it and found a bunch of articles about the new Win 10 machines not having the ability to manually turn off the UEFI secure boot.

Thank you,

Tomwoc

I don't know if there is -or ever will be- a Win 10 driver for that card reader...

Reboot and IMMEDIATELY press F2 which should open BIOS setup. If you delay pressing F2 for even a tiny bit, Win 10 will boot to the desktop. If that doesn't work, follow the instructions here to enter BIOS setup.

Once in BIOS setup, use the arrow keys to navigate around until you find the Secure Boot option, and set it to disabled. Do not make any other changes. Then exit setup and be sure to save the change. If you think you accidentally changed something other than Secure Boot, you can just exit setup without saving changes so no harm done.

Even with Secure Boot disabled, I still can't promise that any driver for your SD reader will work. If you can find a Win 8.1 driver for that exact SD reader, you might try that one.

I have an Inspiron 7548 and I'm also having the same issue.  I downloaded Dell Command Update and after spending like 10 minutes looking for updates it tells me this app isn't compatible with my system.  What gives, Dell?

First off you need to look under your machine type and model in the Downloads and Drivers section to see if Dell released a version for your system.  If not then you are stuck looking for and downloading your drivers manually.  I have not had to work on an Inspiron for a while, so I don't know if there is one.  Second Dell has a poor track record of putting the drivers out for the latest operating system.  Consumer versions of their hardware, Inspiron is one, are usually only supported for a year or so with drivers updated for maybe 3 years but usually only for the operating system originally sold with the system.  If your system is still under warranty or extended warranty call them, their Tech Support people have always been friendly, at least when you get a US based person.  Personally prefer their Chat support as they can send you the web address if there is something you need/want and it is available.  Third if you are like me and need your hardware to last they spend the extra money and buy a business level machine like the Latitude line.  They usually will support these for 3 years and drivers are usually kept up to date for 5 years, with nice add-ins like the Command Update type of software.  They also put out drivers for new operating systems if the system is less than 5 years old.

Dell says the 7548 system is compatible with Win 10 and the card reader driver is here.  This package provides the Realtek Card Reader driver for RTS5227E, 5176E, 5170GRT and is supported on Vostro 5480, Inspron 7447, Inspron 7548, Inspron 20 Model 3043 running Win 10.

I installed the driver but still noting.  When I insert a SD card "USB2.0-CRW" pops up on my device manager.  Also, alas, I am not financially well endowed so an Inspiron is what I have.  I guess that will show me how much Dell thinks of their customers who can't afford their top of the line products.

A simple temporary solution for non-functioning card reader is to buy a USB SD card reader. USB 2.0 ones cost less than 10 bucks. USB 3.0 ones cost 15-20 bucks (and it is backward compatible for USB 2.0).

Hi Slim_thumb I already bought one on ebay for $2.88 which included delivery from CA.

Thanks,

hi

you can try to use these drivers from dell

O2 Micro OZ600xxx Memory Card Reader Driver

www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails

downloads.dell.com/.../O2Micro-_OZ600XXX-Memory-Car_A01_R300787.exe

worked fine on windows 10 and 6420

To install the drivers, use the manual installation process.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and when I insert a flash card into my PCMCIA slot my PC under devices and Printers shows the flash card as "Unspecified TOSHIBA_THNCF512MQG". When I go to my taskbar I can safely remove hardware and eject media and I see my flash card TOSHIBA_THNCF512MQG to eject. What is Unspecified, my driver or my flash card?

I had a similar problem when upgraded from Win7 pro to Win 10 and came here to find a solution. But quickly noticed the following which resolved my problem:

Go to Device Manager

Under 'System Devices', make sure this device is 'Enabled':

Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 1E1A  (try to enable them all in case there is some disabled).
For some reason, I found the above specific device 'disabled', so I just enabled it and my SD card works as normal and the following driver appeared in Storage Controllers:

O2Micro Integrated MMC/SD controller.

I did not need to install anything.

My laptop is Dell Latitude E6530

Hope it works for you too

Everything in my device manager is already enabled so it made no difference.

William,

There have been numerous people suggesting a number of ideas for fixing the SD drive but your suggestion of enabling the  Root port 6 1E1A as you described above did the trick - thank you very much!!!

I have given your response a thumbs up as well as 5 Stars!

All the best,

Tom

If you have a latitude line of machine please check out the Dell Command Update.  I installed in on my E6530 and it works great to pull the correct drivers including for the fingerprint reader.  I have had only issues with fingerprint reader getting the correct drivers, it sometimes will not find the correct ones when Command Update runs, but once you finally get the correct ones in once it does a good job of maintaining them.  I can try on an E6510 at some point if needed.  I need to do that anyway but just have to find the time to do it.

Hrrrm... I've been searching and searching for my e6520, to no avail.

I've tried installing the R300787 drivers from the Dell website (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=KC9W0), but while it shows as installed in the Program list, it does nothing and no SD card reader is listed under Device Manager.

that Root port trick won't work, I have the /C200 chipset series with only 4 ports (all enabled).

*sigh* it is the only thing not working under Windows 10 (but worked fine under Windows 7).

If anyone has any ideas, let me know, otherwise, I'm relatively pleased with the OS upgrade (sans MS's preinstalled aps, Cortana, and such).  Of course, the 1TB Samsung 850 EVO + 16GB memory really really makes this nice :)
