How to use recovery discs in a new hard drive

I hope this is in the right section as it could possibly go in several other sections. The hard drive died on my wife's Inspiron N7010 and I'm going to replace it. She made recovery discs when she first got the computer. How do I use the discs to reinstall the operating system? I've done a reinstall with regular system install and driver discs, but never done a reinstall from recovery discs. I would assume it's the same, but I want to be sure before I mess things up. Thank you in advance.

Insert the first recovery disc in the drive, power on and press F12 to boot from it.  It'll walk you through  the recovery - and the system will be imaged as it was from the factory.

Hello Big Al

Where are you purchasing the HDD or SSD from? If it is from Dell you can buy either a non-imaged or imaged which has all programs and drivers. The non-imaged will contain your diagnostic partition and you will have to do a fresh install of the OS with the DVD. If you use the backup there may be issues as you are loading files which may be corrupt.

Food for thought.

Take care and Godspeed

I was able to reinstall the back up disks with no problem. Thank you both for your help.
