Dell Inspiron 15 5558 / How to set keyboard backlight

Hi,

The keyboard backlight of my new Laptop Inspiron 15 5558 (bought August 2015) is constantly shutting off.  Keyboard backlight is up only 10 seconds and then shut down.  This is obviously too short and I'm searching how to set the keyboard backlight to a longer time (let say 60 secondes at least).

My laptop is running W10 Home Edition.  I looked in Config Panel / Windows Mobility Center and there is no settings for the keyboard backlight.

I suppose a Dell system application should be able to set this on my laptop.  Please provide instruction how to proceed.

Thanks

Hi Rishi.  Thanks to reply.

I already saw for the video support you are proposing on the web:

How to Turn-On & Turn-Off Keypad Backlight in Dell Inspiron 7537 - 7000 Series Laptop

www.youtube.com/watch

Unfortunatly, this is not working.  I'm using W10.  When I open Windows Mobility Center in Config Panel, the Keyboard Backlighting is not in the configurable items!

I supposed there is a kit provided by Dell that installs the configurability settings for Keyboard Backlighting with Inspiron 14 5558.

I provide you below the screen capture of Windows Mobility Center for my computer ...

Any clue?

Thanks

Aptiva

Hi Aptiva,

Apologies for delay in response.

Was it working at any point earlier? If yes, try a system restore and restore the system to a point where it was working fine.

The keyboard backlit can be changed via the DFE / Dell Feature Enhancement. However, The Dell Feature Enhancement pack is available only for business machines such as Latitude and Precision. It is not compatible to work with consumer models.

If nothing works, try a factory restore - http://bit.ly/1NSWfFM

It is definitely maddening, but at least you got a response from Dell. More than I can say when I posted about the double spacing bug when typing that occurs on my Inspiron laptop.

Hi,

The problem you told that your backlit stays ON for just 10 seconds is a plus point. Recently i formatted my laptop and from that time my keyboard backlit stays ON for 60 seconds. I am seriously fed up of it because it consumes battery and has made battery backup low and also troubles a lot at night time. I think there may be some drivers missing that its not showing an option in Mobility Centre to modify the settings.

I will suggest you to keep the settings as it is. Do not try to format or do System Restore. I'll find out the drivers required for it and will let you know.

For time being there's an option to keep your backlit ON continuously while charging. you can find this option in BOOT menu under Keyboard Illumination using AC Power.

First question:  the backlight is optional on some models in this line -- are you certain you ordered the system with the backlit keyboard?
