Dell Dimension E520 UPGRADEN

Hello everybody

Not long ago I received a free Dell Dimension E520 with Windows Vista. Because my girlfriend study we purchased through the school Windows 8.1 Pro for an economical price. So I installed Windows 8.1 Pro which worked pretty well. Now after a few days ago updated to Windows 10 which gave no problem. The computer goes smoothly. Everything works great!

But here's my question. Because it is a temporary computer for my girlfriend her studies. I would like to upgrade it.

What is the fastest processor that is accepted in this computer?

How much RAM memory do I need to install?

Computer specs now:

Intel (R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz 1.79GHz
Ram 2.00GB
32bits system, x64 processor (I gues I had to install Windows 10 pro 64 bits?

Sorry about my english vocabulary. I mostly used a translator.

All Conroe or Kensington cpu's with 65nm and max FSB1066 run on the E520.  Upgrade your BIOS first before changing chips you need bios version 2.4.0

The fastest CPUs DELL validated are  -
KU345 Conroe E6600, 2.40G, 4MB, 1066FSB, B2
PN416 Conroe E6700, 2.66G, 4MB, 1066FSB, B2

Oke many thanks! I also just reading few topics on this forum. They are also talking about Q6700 CPU how about that? Is that CPU faster?

And what about the ram? How much should I upgrade?

Just updated the bios to the latest version.

The Dimension e520 supports up to 8gb of DDR2 memory [4 x 2gb modules], for more info, go HERE:

To use 4gb+ of RAM, you will need a 64-bit operating system.

Many thanks! Just updated windows 10 32 bits to 64bits. Now I can search for a cheap CPU and RAM. What do you people suggest?

E6700 CPU or Q6700 CPU?

Make certain that the RAM you buy, is certified by the seller to be compatible with the e520.

Personally, I try to buy all my RAM, from either www.Newegg.com or www.Crucial.com where I can use their compatible memory finder service.
