dell xps 13 9450 (2015 new version) does not output HDMI to tv or monitor via special dell DA200 Hdmi adaptor

Hi,

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Oops I see my first post got sent, even if the website failed...

Anyay.. I talked to Dell Support and they told me to update the firmware for:

Intel (R) Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update

(version 02.05.04,A00)

downloaded forn Dell.com/support

Enter your service tag and you will find it under Chipset on the driver download page.

That fixed it for me!

It was a known issue for the guy i talked to.

I got the exact same problem.

A brand new Del XPS 13 and the DA200 adapter.

No HDMI output.

But the PC can communicate with the screen, because it gets the name of the monitor in Windows settings.

I have updated the BIOS, dispay drivers, the drives for the DA200 and windows 10.

Still nothing...

Windows thinks there is a monitor there, because it lets me select dual displays, but nothing shows.

the VGA output and network work OK.

Hi.

I got the EXACT same problem!

Brand new Dell XPS 13 and the DA200 adaptor.

The adaptor can communicate with the screen via HDMI, because Windows gets the name of the screen in display settings and device manager, but no image is displayed.

I get the option to chose duplicate displays in windows, but no signal comes out.

I have updated the BIOS, display drivers, the drivers for de DA200 and Windows 10.

The VGA output, and Network works OK.

Did you try pressing the Fn (function key) + F8 to switch displays?

Is it an XPS 13 or other new XPS laptop, and using the DA200 adapter? If so, se my answer above.

Or check out Dell's supportsite for other firmware updates.

Thank you very much that solved the problem!!!!

One thing tho my laptop is 9350 version i wrote it mystakenly but  i think the solution works for all Dell laptops.

indeed updading that firmware fixed the solution!

VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU UPDATE THE FIRMWARE FOR THUNDERBOLT MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO OTHER APP RUNNING OR FOLDERS/BROWSERS OPEN!!!!

I tried it like 10 times  before only to get an error that my laptop doesn't have thunderbolt but that was insane  i later one found out that i was having 1 folder open and that conflicted the update. so make sure everything is closed!

Thank you guys for this post!!!  I kid you not, I was at almost 2 hours on the phone with Dell Tech Support when I found this post.  He was telling me that I needed to call the TV manufacture and I argued with him it was a Dell issue.  Just as he told me for the 10th time to call the TV folks, I finished updating the Thunderbolt Controller Driver and then the Thunderbolt Firmware while still on the phone with him and boom it worked.  One of the best I told you so I have had in a long time.  Extremely frustrated and satisfied at the same time.

Who ever thought it was a good idea to ship customer service offshore?  May go down in the history books as one of the stupidest cost cutting ideas ever implemented.
