New Dell XPS laptop - dead on arrival, will not boot up and keeps crashing - Dell seem to have serious issues with new laptops failing to boot

kept failing to boot and flagged errors like no boot device found.  Eventually got to "getting critical updates" on first set up but laptop keeps crashing and hanging.  Not impressed - seems to be a hardware issue?

Anyone know any likely cause? I will not be keeping this machine but Dell not quick to respond to my demands to replace and collect this piece of junk so will be going for a full refund unless a new machine is with me within the next week.

All brands and models can suffer problems but Dell laptops failing to boot seem to be a big issue and common problem - before I demand full refund and go to HP can anyone comment?
