Latitude E7470 External Monitors with Dock Problems

Hello,

I have a Latitude E7470 for work and when I first started using it with my docking station to external monitors, I was noticing a similar issue as was brought up in the thread linked below. One of my two external monitors (seemingly randomly) would flicker once, or periodically to a point where it was distracting. Additionally, I have seen the graphics card crash a few times after such problems appeared.

I implemented the "fix" that was linked (and marked as the answer to the thread) over lunch about a week ago, and more things went haywire from there. Basically, at this point I am unable to connect to any external monitors through the docking station. I have resorted to having a single monitor connected via HDMI, but it is hardly conducive to working and I would really like to have my multiple monitor setup back (even with the flashing problem, at the least).

Is there any way to undo the actions I have run, or is there a more up to date fix for this issue?

Link to "fix": http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=1XFPM&osCode=W864&fileId=3330366653&languageCode=en&categoryId=VI

Any response and guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to not have to resort to getting a different style (USB 3.0) docking station if I can prevent it.

Yes I am referring to one of the external monitors flashing constantly when it resumes.  This has happened with previous Latitude models and you will see a synaptics VMM update within the video section of the 7450 that fixes this issue.

Good Morning Fellow E7470 Owners!

Thank you all for posting on this issue, it has aided me in dealing with this issue.   Not that it was advertised yet, but there have been multiple releases in chipset drivers for the E7470 yesterday and today.   I will report shortly if it fixes this issue, but I figured I'd report this ASAP to the community because if this works we all can get back to work and stop the screen flashing.

I'll keep you all posted

The Synaptics VMM3320 MST HUB Firmware Updater solved my problems! :)

As near as I can tell the "Last Updated" date has changed, but the file revisions have not.    I took a look at the Synaptics VMM2320 MST HUB update but of course it flagged the update as not compatible.   Can anyone verify that this is their experience in applying this fix?   If it works I'd love Dell to rubber stamp the procedure.

There is a fix about to be released but you have sign a legal document with Dell to get it before its released to the general public.

Video_Firmware_FV9KP_WN32_3.10.1_A07.exe

Contact your Pro support or Dell account manager if you can & sign an NDA.

Make sure the laptop is on the dock when you are doing the update.  Also ensure you have the latest Bios and Display drivers.

It fixed my E7470.

This is slightly a different issue than the one originally posted.

The update has fixed all my colleagues flashing external monitors upon makeup / resume but I am now experiencing a 3-4 in a row monitor flashes on both external displays.  The monitors both then settle.

Have you installed the display driver ending 4390?

It didn't solve my problem either. 4k still doesn't work at all, and with lower resolution external screens, the system is limited to two screens altogether. If I open the built-in screen when docked, then all three screens start flashing like crazy.

Saying that Dell's support is very disappointing would imply that there is any support to talk of. For $2000 other companies typically sell functional hardware. What makes Dell think that they don't have to?

Hello all,

I'm having the same "blackout" problems with my monitors when docked with my E7470 and Win10.

I'm current on the BIOS and display drivers, and when I tried to install Video_Firmware_FV9KP_WN32_3.10.1_A07 I get an error message:

"Version: 3.10.001
Update result: 243
Error description: Product ID does not match, the firmware is for different board"

Is this not the right update/version to use?

(The page for the Synaptics VMM3320 MST HUB Firmware Update says:

Version: Version 3.10.1, A07
Category: Video
Release date: 21 Apr 2016
Last Updated: 21 Apr 2016
Compatible Systems
Latitude E5250/5250
Latitude E5450/5450
Latitude E5550/5550
Latitude E7250/7250
Latitude E7450

...but it seems that others have been successful in running it?)

And, yes, I tried running it while docked and on A/C.

Is there anyone from Dell that can help?

I tried this download on my E7470 and now my docking station is totally unusable - what was an intermittent second screen blinking issue after the machine coming back from power saving, it is now both two screens attached to my dock alternating from on and off.

A service engineer is now scheduled to come in to fix the problem.  Dell needs to get on top of this issue - this is supposed to a high end business laptop for work.
