I tried an AMD RX 460, but it wouldn't boot properly. Searched for more advice, found another post in the forum, and now my XPS 8300 is running perfectly with the EVGA 1050 ti - http://amzn.eu/35PIdiM
Novabench score went up from 475 to 1426!

search the forum and you'll find others have successfully upgraded to other cards than the ones Dell says will work.
type (or copy paste) the following into google Dell's search doesn't work as you would like.
site:en.community.dell.com "GTX 960" 8300
or
site:en.community.dell.com "GTX 970" 8300
You may need a power supply upgrade depending on the card you choose.

The best card for your system will be the EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SC GAMING ACX 2.0. I have the exact XPS 8300 system and i bought the above card from Amazon and it works perfectly with the stock power supply.

New Pascal Series card like the GTX 1050TI work fine. GTX1080 would require a new power supply IMHO.
