At a loss on what's wrong with family member's Inspiron 570.

A family member asked me if I would look at their Inspiron 570 and my conclusion was something on the motherboard must of went bad because the PC was booting up but simply not detecting the display. I also tried using the display from my own computer and it also didn't detect it.

So, I bought a brand new motherboard and installed it and hooked everything back up and then powered it up and... display lights up and windows boots up and says it needs to repair itself because it detected a hardware change. Which makes sense, new motherboard. I leave it at that screen and come back and the display is suddenly off.

I press the power button on the tower and nothing happens. The computer acts as if it's getting zero power. No lights, no fans spinning up, nothing happens. I buy a brand new power supply and hook that up and the exact same thing happens. Nothing lights up. Nothing comes on.

I'm pretty confident in my abilities as I've built multiple custom gaming PC's but it's always possible I did something wrong. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on so I have somewhere to start from because as the subject says I'm at a complete loss as to what to try now.

Hi Komentra

Thanks for writing to us.

Please try back the old motherboard and check if the system gets power, if yes then the new motherboard could be Dead on arrival.

Try remove all the components after installing the new motherboard and observe if its powers up as well.

Regards

Sorry for the delay. Didn't have time to work on the computer until today and I did as suggested and installed the old motherboard but kept the new power supply.

The green light on the back of the power supply is now LIT UP but pushing the button on the front of the PC does nothing. The cables are all connected to the correct places on the motherboard so now I'm even more confused.

At least the power supply light is coming on however. That's some progress.

Hi, no worries, nice to hear from you.

if the system doesn't show any signs of life when pressing the power button even for a second , then it looks to be a DOA motherboard.

I have a similar problem.  Computer will not boot up.  Fans run, but no signal to the monitor.  Tried alternate monitor, no luck.  Lights on front of computer do not illuminate.  Disconnected all devices, removed RAM and still no signal to montitor.

Any ideas? Power supply or motherboard?

Take everything out including all cards and the battery.   Replace the battery.  Turn on without ram. It should beep.  Then put back  video card and 1 stick of ram at a time.
