Dell Precision T5600 CPU compatibility: dell current power supply does not support...
Hello
I just swapped out a e5-2603 CPU and installed a e5-1620 CPU in a Precision T5600. The PC will not boot, and prior to a forced entering to bios setup, it gives a warning/error
"Your dell current power supply does not support the recent configuration changes made .."
My PSU is a 635W - this should be sufficient, yes??
So is the 1620 not compatible with this model?

I just looked you the Wattages on the intel site. The E5-2603 requires 80W, the E5-1620 requires 130W. But I would have thought that all PSU supply a minimum of 150W for the CPU. You know E5-1xxx is single socket only, so you are only using 1 socket right?

The E5-1xxx series is a single socket motherboard only, whereas the E5-2xxx series is for dual CPU socket motherboard, (although a single E5-2xxx can be used if the other socket is switched off in the BIOS).
Things I would check:
Is the E5-1xxx CPU you are using a v1 or a v2 as the T5600 motherboard may only except v1 generation of Intel CPU’s not v2 or above.
Upgrade to the latest BIOS. You will need to reinstall the original CPU to do this.
When you say it doesn’t boot, can you get into the BIOS menu; or are you just saying that it doesn’t boot into Windows. If it is the latter, you may need to reinstall Windows for the new CPU (not always required, and dependant on the CPU change).
Run a SysDiag test on boot (F5 i think)
