Dell Precission 5510 Ubuntu 16.04 Screen Flickering
Hi,
I have purchased the Dell Inspiron 5510. I installed a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 on it.
I am experiencing random flickering in a lot of cases:
* When scrolling websites
* When connecting 1 or 2 monitors to it
* Terminal doesn't keep up with my typing
* Videos have weird pixeling sometimes
My config:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake Integrated Graphics (rev 06)
DeviceName: Onboard IGD
Subsystem: Dell Skylake Integrated Graphics
--
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107GLM [Quadro M1000M] (rev a2)
Subsystem: Dell GM107GLM [Quadro M1000M]
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
My system:
Linux pandaadb 4.4.0-22-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 12 22:03:46 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I am using the Nvidia driver
361.42 Proprietary, tested
I had to disable secure boot for this to work as otherwise I will end up in a login loop (due to the non signed nature of the nvidia driver and ubuntu enforcing secure boot at V 16)
This is really frustrating and I have tried to reinstall and configure drivers. I am using Unity as Gnome did not fix any of the issues.
The flickering persists with or without external monitors.
Any tips/help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Artur

Dear Dell Support,
could someone please look into this? I chose the laptop I bought because it is advertised as an Ubuntu ready-to-go Laptop and I am quite frustrated with the product at this point. I had to completely deactivate the nvidia gpu to even make this latop useable.
I have been spending a week now working with ubuntu engineers to make this work.
I have raised bugs with nvidia for this issue as well.
I have tried multiple version of the NVIDIA driver as well as multiple configurations. This includes the latest unreleased drivers to see if they fix the problem.
Is there a workaround for this? You obviously must have tested this before announcing that it works with ubuntu. I would be very happy for any workaround that can fix this issue.
Thank you,
Artur

I am having the same issues.
On Linux Mint 18 (16.04 derivate) using nouveu driver.
I dont think, 16.04 is certified yet though.

Hi Markus,
installing Ubuntu 14 LTS resulted in a power cycle every other minute. It runs much more smoothly with 16, however still no working graphics. I have created multiple threads, and this seems unsolvable. I believe the root cause is:
devtalk.nvidia.com/.../7
The disappointing part is that this laptop is still advertised by dell as a developer laptop, while they can't support it or offer any solutions.
