XPS 1810 will not boot
I have an XPS 1810 that I purchased in 2013 and is out of warranty. It has always worked fine, but suddenly will not boot. The power adapter appears to be working (white light is on). When I attempt to turn it on, the black screen with the round Dell logo pops up briefly (1-2 seconds), then I hear a click and it turns off completely. Holding the power button down for 10 seconds did nothing, nor did pressing the F2, F12, or F8 keys during the seconds that the Dell logo appeared. I have not attempted to remove the battery yet - I'm ok with replacing laptop batteries but this appears to be a bit more complicated. I have a lot of pictures on this computer that I don't want to lose. I have barely used it so I'm a bit disappointed that I'm having this problem already. Any ideas what I should try next?

Thanks for writing to us. Almost all the components on this models are very complicated to remove. If feasible you can take the machine to a local Dell Authorized service center and get it repaired. Or get the HD out and backed up your data first then give it for repair.
We are either looking at a faulty memory modules or a faulty motherboard.

Thank you for your reply. That is what I was afraid of. Very disappointing since we have barely used this computer. How do I find a Dell authorized Service Center? I don't know how to remove the hard drive from this model but I definitely need our data (and photos) backed up before it is repaired. I will pm you the service tag and other info you requested.

If the system is out of warranty, any computer shop can do the repair/data retrieval. You're better off with a good, local shop than with one of the big chains (Geek Squad, Staples, etc.).
