Dell 3650 want to upgrade from retail Win Pro to Win10 Home.
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 3650 with Win10 Home installed. I didn't buy the Win10 Pro version from Dell because I had a Retail copy of Win7 Pro that I was going to install and then upgrade to Win10 Pro. What happens every time (on my third clean Win7 Pro install try now) is that my fully licensed and activated Win7 Pro machine wants to "upgrade" to Win10 Home.
This is not my first rodeo. I have upgraded many of the machines here from Win7 Pro and Ultimate to Win10 Pro without a problem. This includes Vostro 260s, Optiplex 3020s and Inspiron 3847s. This Inspiron 3650 has been a problem from day 1. I've even done a few friends Win7 Home to Win10 Home upgrades on various machines without problem. Anybody have a clue WHY this box won't upgrade to Win10 Pro?

Upgrade using a Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 8 Pro, or Windows 8.1 Pro product key

This default product key will upgrade your device to Windows 10 Pro, but won't activate it.

You may also try uninstalling your Antivirus before upgrading.

"Upgraded" to Win10 Home. Used the supplied Key and started the upgrade to Win10 Pro. After an hour it rebooted. When it came up it said it could not complete the upgrade. When I went to change the key again it now says...

Shoult,
Do you have Windows 7 Service Packs installed. If not, you will need to install it and any other Windows 7 updates. If that does not resolve the upgrade issue you will need to call Microsoft for upgrade information since you have a Retail Version of Windows 7.

Referring back to the image in the original post, you can see that it is Version 6.1 (Build 7601) Service Pack 1. It was updated with every Windows 7 update (including recommended and optional) available before the current July Patch Tuesday
But why should I have to go through all of this? It SHOULD a straight upgrade from Pro to Pro without the silly stop in between for Home. I've done around 40 Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro upgrades since February. None have had to go Win7 Pro-> Win10 Home-> Win10 Pro except this troublesome Inspiron 3650.

Started from square one today and did a clean install on a clean HDD.Installed my retail copy of Win7 Pro. Did all the Windows updates including the 7/12/16 Patch Tuesday crop. Installed all the Dell 3650 Win7 drivers afterwards because most require updates not included in the SP1 install disk, rescanned for new updates. The only thing I didn't apply was the MS Security Essentials, Skype and Silverlight. I used the Win7 Pro key to activate it and joined it to our domain. Then I downloaded the Win10 Upgrade Advisor which said everything was fine except the display????? Since I do most everything over TightVNC I had installed the Mirage video driver. I removed that, rebooted and tried the Advisor again. This time it had no issues and went ahead and did the upgrade to Win 10 Home. Changed the key to the Dell supplied Key and the upgrade to Win10 Pro started (this is where it failed last time) and everything went fine. Once I changed the Key to the Win7 Pro key I got a Win10 Pro machine. What a hassle. But at least it's done.
