fan running full speed when E520 is shutdown

Dimension E520, seems to be working fine except when the machine is shutdown, then the fan runs at full speed and won't stop until the power is turned off at the back or wall.
Any ideas as to the cause ?

Hi Like_a_wombat

Thanks for writing to us.

Please disconnect the power cord and all the peripherals, hold down the power button for 15 sec and then plug back everything and try to power on and then shut down again.

If the issue is still the same, run the diagnostics from f12 menu .

The issue could be either motherboard or the power supply unit.

If possible you can try a different power supply unit.

thanks. I've tried disconnecting peripherals, removing the CMOS battery etc. Ran diagnostics, and didn't come up with anything. Problem still occurring.

You can try updating the BIOS if any available(we doubt though keeping the age of system in mind). Also ensure all the applications are closed before shutting down the system and if possible reinstall the windows afresh. if still the same, then we are looking at a faulty motherboard/fan .
