Laptop Runs Unusually Hot (Latitude 15 5000)

My company purchased several Latitude 15 5000 machines with the Intel core 5 processors. We changed the OS to ubuntu on all laptops. 1 of the 3 laptops we purchased runs super hot.

I've ran the "top" command and compared the running processes of the 2 "good" machines with the laptop which runs hot, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions on what we can check before returning the laptop?

Thank you!

Thank you for posting AABRAAMYAN,

Is the system in question giving any type of error messages, and if so what are they?  Is the notebook giving any beep codes?  If you haven't tried yet I suggest running ePSA diagnostics (tapping F12 when starting the system and choosing diagnostics, or in Win 10 holding the shift button while clicking restart), the diags can determine if there is a problem with the cooling fan.

What method are you using to determine that the system is running hot, what symptoms are you seeing that are indicating that they may be a problem?

If you haven't tried to yet you may wish to consider updating the BIOS and see if that helps. I will be sending a friend request so I can get your information and possibly offer specific solutions for your model of notebook.

Terry, we took the laptop back to the retailer and they were able to give us a replacement. They suspected that our change of OS caused the problem, not sure why that would be the issue given we did the same thing with the other laptops. Regardless we got a replacement. Everything is running smooth. Thank you for your response.
