Powervault 124t SAS VMWare ESX

Hi everyone,

I would like to connect my SAS PowerVault directly to the Vmware host 5.1.

Will I be able to use it from a single windows VM ?

I would like to setup Veeam and use the autoloader for backups.

The idea is to assign the hardware to a single VM (yes I know I will not be able to vmotion it) and use it.

I will appreciate any comment / support.

Cheers, Dan

Hello Dan,

When it comes to tape devices they need to be connected to physical host that run an OS & not a VM. With tape devices they are often not seen correctly on a VM & drop offline & are not to be seen correctly again. That is why we state that a tape device needs to be connected to a host physically and requires a physical OS as well.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam,

I'm currently testing Veeam 9.5 and it's coming with a remote tape proxy functionality. I currently see the PV124t and its drive correctly, but tapes used with backupexec before are not working properly.

Someone saying to erase tapes with a properary tool, do you know how?

ps. Another nice tool I found is www.starwindsoftware.com
