XPS L501x USB and other Issues

Mine is a XPS L501x from Nov 2010, which I reluctantly upgraded to Windows 10 over a year ago.

The laptop was working fine until last month, although slower than it did with Windows 7.

Suddenly, the USB 3.0 ports (the one on the left and the one on the back) stopped recognizing devices, then sometimes the other USB port also stopped detecting devices.

Restarted a few times, updated the drivers, no luck.

Then it only started working when I connect a USB device (mouse, keyboard, HDD, USB Stick) and manually update the drivers about 4 or 5 times, but once I disconnect it, it doesn't recognize it the next time and I have to update the drivers all over again.

ALso, one day the power button wouldn't turn the laptop on, tried it a few times, it worked once but there were repeated three short beeps all the way into booting and normal usage.

Microsoft said that the laptop may not be suitable for Windows 10, so I downgraded to WIndows 7 64 bit, now the same issue persists with the USB 3.0 ports, except the fact that the drivers wont update at all. only the USB 2.0 port works. I tried everything like manually searching for specific drivers, changing the registry so that the power save option is turned off - still no luck.

ALso, since the downgrade, the Synaptics driver (specifically installed) won't work, no zoom options, it only works with a normal touchpad driver.

Please help as I have to get this up and running for a project soon.

Did you uninstall Windows 10, or format and reload the Windows 7 OS from the beginning?

Hi

I downloaded Windows 7 ISO from microsoft website (one of their guys helped me on that) and I did a fresh install of Windows 7. It doesn't show while booting if there is Windows 10 still there, so I am assuming the Windows 10 was uninstalled.

Please forgive my limited knowledge, I am not good at this!

Hi

I just installed a Windows freshly from an ISO.

I didn't actively uninstall Windows 10, I thought it was done automatically.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge in this, I'm not great with computers.

regards
