Dell xps 8700 does not go to sleep

I have varied the screen saver settings and find that the screen saver does not always come on, and if it does, it rarely ever triggers the computer to go into sleep mode as I desire it to.  It has gotten worse with the new windows 10 anniversary update.

Appreciate thoughts

I get the dell updates now.  I do not see why system restore is of any value for an issue that is ongoing for months.

That would not be a good use of time.  I guess Dell is not able to see how to fix the issue.

I do not intend to reinstall the operating systgem.  that is too much effort.  There is nothing wrong with that and I suspect there is  a setting that is not working well.

i had already updated the display card drivers.   that did not help.  no need for further help from Dell, unless you know the exact cause. . thanks

Hi ,

We can suggest you to uninstall the graphics card drivers restart the system and install the drivers from the graphics card manufacturer's website and check if that works.

Kindly check if that helps .

Thanks

Hi,

It is unfortunate that non of these steps have not worked as usually for such issue a BIOS update after which and update on the video drivers will fix the issue, however we would apologize for the inconvenience .

As a last option you can try the following

CTRL + X >>>> Power Options >>>> Choose what power buttons do >>>> At the bottom is Shutdown settings

Run Command prompt as Admin (Win + X.. Command Prompt (Admin)), say Yes. Type powercfg -h on. The reverse is logically powercfg -h off.

go to Windows 10 key + X –> Power options –> Change plan settings –> Change advanced power settings –> Scroll down to “Power buttons and lid” –> Sleep button action –> Change settings to Hibernate.

Kindly do get back to us if there are any issues.

Thanks

Robin
