Noisy Fan Now Runs Every Time I Play A Game
-Computer Specs-
Model: Base Level Dell XPS 8910
CPU: Intel Core i5-6400
RAM: 8GB DDR4
Graphics Card: GT 730 --> GTX 1050
-Issue Description-
Ever since I upgraded the graphics card from the stock GT 730 to the GTX 1050, the noisy backup fan runs every time I play a game. It didn't do this before I upgraded the graphics. I checked to see if the card was compatible with my PSU and it was. To try and resolve this problem, I upgraded the BIOS version to the latest from Dell's website. Problem still persists. Support phone number said they couldn't help me.
Also:
Does this mean that my computer is defective, or is the fan inside just loud?

The new card likely draws a lot more power than the old one did, which in turn generates a lot more heat - the fans are thermostatically controlled. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of a smaller system case is that there's less airflow -- further, the Dell fans are tied into the mainboard, so replacing them with large units is probably not possible. You might want to see if they'll replace the fan under warranty - that may quiet the system a bit, but the fans likely need to spin faster because of the small size of the case, which is something you can't really do anything about.

So, why is it that the same computer with a better graphics card, bought from dell, doesn't experience this problem?

The cards are OEM cards that are tested and customized by Dell to draw X amount of power and have Y components etc.

i agreed with the answer from friend in upper line. Sure the new graphic card is more strong and need more power to run, need more air to cooler !

I know this is an older thread, but I've found a solution that has worked for me. My XPS 8910 also had a power fan that became very loud during CPU intensive operations. I knew it wasn't just due to gaming or the graphics card's fault because the fan would also blow like crazy during disk operations like Defrag that apparently stressed the CPU. It only started blowing like crazy when my CPU would hit 100% usage. Through a lot of hit and miss experimenting I found a Windows 10 Power Profile setting that has really helped.
In Control Panel under 'Power Options' I chose my default Dell power plan and picked 'Edit Plan Settings' then chose 'Change Advanced Power Settings'. I then went down to 'Processor Power Management' and changed 'Maximum Processor State' from 100% to 90%. I also set 'System Cooling Policy' to 'Passive'.
This has eliminated the excessively loud power fan. And I've used Open Hardware Monitor to verify that system temps are almost the same as before. It seems the CPU just had to be stopped from hitting 100% to avoid the power fan blowing crazy loud.
