Dell XPS 13 9365 Loud Beep Issue

Hi All,

I've had an XPS 13 2 in 1 for a few weeks now and every so often (a few times a day) it makes a loud beep for a half second. I cant tell if it is coming from the speakers or from something else in the system, but its extremely loud and sharp no matter what the volume setting is at. This isnt the coil whine issue, which I do hear sometimes when the computer is plugged in but it doesn't really bother me. Has anybody else had this issue with their XPS 9365? Is there some way to fix it?

Any chance it is some type of warning siren, such as heat?  I haven't heard mine in a while but if I hear it again I will check the bottom of the unit to see if it seems hot.

I have had a 9365 for almost 4 month and this loud beep is still there even if updating all the drivers and BIOS when new arrives. Regarding any heat problem, I got the sound just after start today and couldn't feel any heat. I can hear the beep when the speaker is muted as well. Now and then I check the log-files but I can't see any sign of logged activity at the time of the sound. Nothing obvios anyway. Apart from this beep a really like the 9365 so please fix ASAP since a can't bring it to an auditorium because I'll scare the *** out of the others and people want me to mute the sound. And this is what I've done...

I have had exactly the same issue since new - currently investigating with support but nothing useful forthcoming so far, bios and chipset etc all updated.

It happens seemingly completely randomly, sometimes every couple of days, sometimes two weeks can go by without it.

There is nothing in the event logs or bios diagnostics.

I have recorded each time it has happened and what the system was doing at the time, there doesn't seem to be any pattern at all. Sometimes lid is closed, sometimes not, sometimes plugged in, sometimes on battery, sometimes a few minutes after boot up sometimes after 8 hours use. I'm not running anything too taxing.

It's very loud and very annoying.....

Dell - Any update on the plan to solve the problem?   We need some info, because at some point we need to start a return process.  I can only have the cr*p scared out of me so many times.

Also having this problem with a new XPS. Updated bios and drivers and it seems worse (several times an hour) although I am getting more varied beeping noises. Please answer with status.

The beeps also seem to come from different areas of the motherboard.

I have updated the BIOS and the audio driver updates that were suggested by Dell but none of this is working. It does seem to come from the motherboard and seems to happen randomly perhaps due to overheating or a warning of some kind.

It seems like this is a problem experienced by a lot of people. Has there been any progress from the technical support team?

I've had the same issue since the day I got the laptop. It started out very quiet and only once per restart and increased to the point that you could hear it at the other side of the house and it would happen multiple times in a row. I couldn't use the laptop at that point.

I believe this is an issue with faulty solid state drives. I sent mine in for repairs 3 times for this issue and on the 3rd time they replaced the drive and the sound lessened considerably to about as loud as a spinner hard drive. I'm not sure if it will increase in volume like last time due to other issues preventing me from using the laptop but I'd start with the solid state drive since nothing else worked including swapping the motherboard.

So if this noise happens again should we be requesting a replacement SSD from Dell or will there be a "recall" from Dell for these?

I have the same issue 9365, i7 model. Random times when it happens, no real correlation to any particular action. Have a support request in with Dell. They have agreed to replace the motherboard, only problem is Dell do not have any replacement motherboards in stock, so have to wait nearly a month for a replacement.

ATTENTION: If you are less than 30 days, return the computer.  Customer service  says I'm out of luck since I'm at 50 days!!!

RETURN THE LAPTOP IMMEDIATELY!  If you can.

Ist was silent for 2 months but today did appear twice within an hour in the midst of an lecture. Dell Germany is not aware of the Problem. I sent them the link to this thread and the reddit comment on updating the sound drivers. This makes me really sad:-(

Well, went through bios and chipset driver updates with the dell customer support controlling the computer last night.  AND, it just did it again.  We'll see what they can do to fix it.....

I am also having the same problem with my 13 inch 2-in-1 with i5, 8GB and 256GB SSD. It happens around five to ten times a day and does not appear to be linked to any particular program or configuration.

I've updated BIOS as recommended by DELL but that didn't fix the problem.

I also have the same issue. Randomly happens 5-10 times daily. My issue is I use my laptop for presentations and when i randomly beeps loudly in front of clients scaring them, its not a good look.

Dear Community,

I'm posting this new audio driver on behalf of DELL-Luke P: <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Please install the driver as an attempt to resolve the beep and reply back with any further questions or feedback.
