Can someone direct me to a phone number or email address I can contact Dell to have a technician come out and replace my 6 cell Battery to a 3 Cell Battery and install a second HD caddy?   Cant seem to find a contact number on there web page!

Dell does not do parts swaps-upgrades-downgrades after purchase.  Only warranty work is covered on an at-location basis if you have purchased that upgrade when you bought the system.

If you want to install those parts, you'll need to purchase them separately (Dell Spare Parts -- 1-800-357-3355) and either install them yourself or have a local computer shop provide the labor on an as-billed basis.

Can anyone confirm if this would be a simple operation?    I'm assuming take out the old battery, put in the new smaller battery.   I assume I can buy the caddy that holds the 2.5" HD so it sounds simple.

Will I need any software/driver changes if I do this?

Thanks in advance.

Both parts are simple to replace.  Service manual:

www.dell.com/.../Working-on-your-computer

Drive bay:

Battery:

The one thing to realize is that you're going to see severely reduced battery runtime in swapping in the smaller battery -- which together with the added power requirements of the hard drive will result in perhaps a 3-hour runtime vs significantly more for the 6 cell battery.  This will be particularly true if you have more than the standard FHD display panel.

If you're referring to the caddy for the drive, it won't be there if you're downgrading from the 6- to the 3-cell battery.  You'll need one.

Thanks again ejn63

I understand battery life will be reduced.     I was more concerned that there may not be a socket already there for the second HD.   Sounds like it shoud be there?

Thanks -  But will it have the sata socket that needs to plug into the 2nd Hard Drive?

You need a special connector cable, probably this one:

2.5" SATA Hard Drive Adapter Interposer Connector and Cable - XDYGX
