Alienware Aurora R4 System Fan/ boot up issue
Hello,
I have an Alienware Aurora R4 desktop and I am confused on a couple of issues I am having. The first issue I am having is with my "System fan."
Randomly throughout the date, or night, the system fan will just spin up to 4,000 RPM for several minutes and stop or continue to spin up and down. I have ran my anti virus, anti malware programs they have found nothing. I ran PC check, with the alien autopsy and it said everything was fine.
The overall performance of the system has not been affected everything is running normal. Its just the fan seems to have a heart attack. I did notice when I opened it up the other day that it is connected directly to my CPU. I thought that could have been the reason, corrupted or just bad CPU. I am not sure.
Second issues I am having is chckdsk runs every time I boot up. I know Windows put out something months ago stating that one of their "security updates" was corrupted and made the computer think the hard drive was dirty. Now about two months later it starts back up. I thought it was a virus but I ran several different tests with no results. All my drivers are up to date and I cannot find any reasoning as to why this is happening again.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like your Asetek CPU cooler is going out. Have you checked your temps with CPUID HW-Monitor?
Continuous CheckDisk on every boot is bad. Could be many possible things including hard-drive going out. What does drive's SMART read?
If warrantied, phone Dell Support. If you are not under Dell warranty, I would have a qualified technician take a look at system for you.

Might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling Command Center for the fans issue. If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1, there is a newer version also.
You could try running a more thorough chkdsk including a surface scan overnight and see if it finds the drive is failing.

I ran a complete chkdsk scan and did not receive any information that said the hard drive is corrupted. I ran a SCU that Alienware/ Dell offers and it said the HD is ok.
I am attemping to uninstall Command Center yet I cannot find it in the programs and feature page.
I am going to call Dell and get some support this weekend. I need to get this fixed.

I would try downloading the Command Center for your OS version and install it, uninstall it, reinstall it and ensure computer BIOS is most recent. It should show up in add/remove programs area. I reinstalled mine and doing this even resolved fan speed issues that were present before Windows loads.
Maybe chkdsk has been put into your list of Startup actions and can be removed?

I just flashed my BIOS. I checked and it said it was RO3, or whatever the correct version number was, and I flashed it up to 9. After doing so, my computer was in a weird state where it wasnt on but it wasnt off. I left it alone for about 10 minutes and rebooted after nothing happened. Well that was a giant mistake. As it corrupted my files. I did a system restore and it fixed the problem. Im running several different tests to make sure my computer is ok and nothing is "broken." On the funny side of the situation. Since this occurred I haven't had any unwanted check disk at start up.
I guess my only concern right now is my fan, tonight I downloaded CC and it installed. Normally, it would tell me to uninstall the old verison etc etc. But it installed and seems to be working correctly. The fan isnt being a pain right now.
Overall.. My main focus right now is to make sure my HDD is ok.

I'm not sure if you've managed to sort out this issue but I had a similar problem. When taxing the system with applications (not so much) or gaming I experienced the system fan revving up to several thousand times per minute, then quiet down but still remain high. At this point I though it could be my CPU water cooler or heat sink playing up.
Turns out in Windows 7 the power settings were set to maximum performance profile which among other things has a processor power management setting which has a sub setting for "minimum processor state". In this profile that is not allowed below 100% ("maximum processor state" can stay happily at 100% unless you REALLY don't want any excess noise from the fan. I put my minimum to 5% just like the balanced profile and the maximum at 85% - 90% and that seems to keep the fan speed at the same RPM as if the system is idle on the desktop around 1250 RPM).
So as soon as I set this I no longer had the fan spin up to take off speed.
Not sure if that'll help anyone but I hope it does. I traced the culprit software to AVG Tune up (very good so not taking anything away from it) which set the power profile for me.

Yeah part of the problem was the power settings. It was set to max and I forgot I did that a long time ago. I changed my maximum to 90% and right now fan is hovering at 1191 PCI jumped around for a couple of seconds, going from 1470 to 1490 but calmed down to 1464. I do have system mechanic installed. I wouldnt be surprised if it had something to do with it but it is overall a good program to help me clean my computer.

Ive changed my power settings to "Power saver" and Ive ran Glary Utilities 3 disk check and it found some errors. I think the cause to all of the check disk is my hard drive is screwed up.
