Delays...

So i ordered my area-51 on oct 23, prpopsed delivery date of 11/30 ( 5 weeks).  delay 1, no email no phone call... it was delayed 1 week 12/7.  I called and was given no reason or appology as to why it takes 6 weeks to build a cookie cutter computer.  i had no upgraded parts. i only added a monitor and the WoW install.  Delay 2 no email, no phone call delayed to 12/14.  (happened today)  I called and complained, they "expedited my order" and still gave me no reason why it takes 7 weeks to build a computer.  I would think that Dell/Alienware would WANT my $2,500, and if it gets delayed again ill take my money to HP/VooDoo.  Just had to get that out there.

Just got word that my order that I placed on 11/5 to ship 12/11 has been put off for missing componets till 12/18. I ordered an AW area-51 alx with 950 3.06 ghz quad core processor, tactx (mouse, keyboard, and earphones), 1.2tb (2x640) in 0 rad, dual ati 5870s, windows 7  64 bit, 6g 1600 ram, sound blaster x-fi audio extreme card, Dual drives- one blue-ray that doesn't write and dvd-rom, and WOW.

I wasn't too surprised by this after reading the posts on this site and the Niche. It's a bite, but what's a week among friends. Hope you all get your systems soonest. Good Luck.

Not to be negative, but it could take longer than a week in some cases :(

Never-the-less, best of luck to you as well...

So, anyone found out as to why there are so many delays?

I wish they would at least give us an honest answer so we can understand why this is happening..

Instead, they just pull "We apologize for the inconvenience that may have caused you, but rest assured we will do everything to expedite your order so you have it asap"

"Next thing you know, you're at it again..all over calling the rep hearing the same thing over and over without any explanation"

Well, look at the bright side..I don't even have an estimated shipping date lol? So I'm not expecting or hoping it would come soon! whatsoever.

-Post got deleted for saying "C" word again. nonsense is ok but not "C" word :( oh the irony..

Granted we all have different hardware, but I really would like to know what component(s) are causing the delays. If its a HD or something simple - please ship it without it and I will wait for the piece to come in. I have extra components I can use for now...

Oh and I don't have any estimated shipping date either :(

The reason they won't do this is that their stuff is assembled in Malaysia.  They probaly won't ship out a batch of people's orders until they have a certain amount to save on shipping.  This explains why someone could order a week before this mass shipping date, and get theirs, and others can order and wait 2 months.  This is just my assumption.  It isn't our fault that Dell decided that American soil wasn't good enough to build computers, but was good enough to collect money from.  They need to be responsible to customers and get their orders out regardless of whether or not it costs a bit more shipping - they chose to move it overseas for cheap labor, not us.  What is worth more? The extra shipping, or the loss of thousands of customers as hundreds more post here every day, reminding each other why NOT to do business with Dell anymore.

The representatives feed you a line because that is what they are trained to do - in many cases, they probably have no clue what is happening with your computer and thus can't give you what we might call an "honest answer".  Therefore you get "We are sorry, but we promise it has been 'expedited'".  That way you feel like you are getting special treatment for your order even though they say that to everyone.  Dell may be making the shift to a large corporate supplier, and people who buy personal computers are the second class customers (ironic if you know Dell's history).  There's 5 days left in this week.  If my computer isn't here, Dell will lose my business for good, and I'll warn everyone I can about doing business with them as well.  If I had at least gotten some kind of clue as to what was going on, regardless of whether the rep didn't do their job or whether the rep just had no way of finding out, I might have felt differently.

The reason they won't do this is that their stuff is assembled in Malaysia.

If this is true then the assembly plant in Malaysia is probably overloaded come round X'mas.

I've read the part where Dell had shut down so many production facilities it's a shame, when US people can't order what used to be US built PCs.

The lesson here is don't buy Dell unless you want some training in doing the merry go round of clueless "Customer Care Centres" and also the equally clueless Tech Support lines.

When I called the "special" XPS support lines here which is now handling Alienware, the poor tech was reading straight from the manual.

I could probably do a 100x better job, having completely disassembled a XPS 710 and fully upgraded it to a XPS 720!

The reason they won't do this is that their stuff is assembled in Malaysia.

If that is the case, then that would explain a lot. However it doesn't explain people with months of delays, and it also doesn't explain why someone's PC was shipped before someone else (like what happened to me, and others).

I just hope two things:

1) We get a answer soon on why all the delays.

2) We all get our AW before Christmas of this year (notice I say this year...).

EDIT: Looks like they are having issues with the new Zino HDs as well...

In short, this is just sad :( Granted we are possibly on the few that had issues, but as usual the question is why...why us...what component???

PS: I like the look of the guitar, but it appears really dark. It could be just me though.

So, one of the dell rep called me today to update me on the status. He said, it takes a month to build an Alienware system. Eh?

"But rest assure you will receive the system in no time"

December 9th, 2009 19:00

I'm sure there are geographic reasons why an Alienware would take more time than others...but I ordered my 51 ALX with dual Nvidia cards on November 11th and the estimated delivery date was December 21st.  It arrived December 3rd without any warning....my on-line status never changed beyond "shipped".  In fact, it still says that.

The box was a little beat up but the beast works beautifully....aside from the command centre thermal fan issue that has been fixed for now.

I live in Toronto...where do these rigs come from (in North America)?

This was a rare case of me being teed-off at Dell because I had no warning that the delivery was about to happen.  I expected delivery in late December and it was at my door weeks before.  Thankfully I live in a condo where the front desk signed for the 90 pound  box and called me later in the afternoon out of the blue.

Again, I'm not complaining about the early delivery...it just seems that Dell has some major work to do with it's vaunted online order system.

This is weird because just like you I know a person who placed their order on Monday for an Aurora w/ a 5870 last Monday and he recvd an email that is shipped on Wed and he got the system today in the mail. Some people just seem to get them early while others are waiting for who knows what.

I would cancel and reorder maybe.

I'm confused, you say the status never moved beyond 'shipped' and you had no idea it was coming?  Wouldn't shipped imply that it was....shipped?  Or do you mean it never moved TO shipped?

Amazingly, back in Singapore, my order has been conveniently pushed back by one month. Anyway, i am not going to wait for it. I will be cancelling my order. For your guys who are still waiting, pls do file a complain to your local authority. I am doing so to the consumer association. Protect our rights, and not let Dell abuse us. The whole experience has been ridiculous.  (For those in Singapore, under CASE, you can file a complain if the delivery cannot be fulfilled within 30 days). Just cancel all orders..

Well, I am going to take this experiment one step further. I have ordered another Dell Alienware Aurora that is very similar to the first one that seems to be in perpetual delay, except I am removing the Tactix Keyboard which indicated it would add a 1 day delay. The ship date of this second system is December 22nd. The ship date of my first system is now January 19th. Whichever one ships first will be kept, and the other will be canceled (or both may get cancelled if neither ship by end of December). I am thinking that the first system order may have occurred during a period of time (around the end of October to the first few weeks in November) where Dell completely botched the orders and they went into a black hole. Guess we will see. I am sure I have triggered multiple security alerts on my credit card now.

I'll let you guys know what happens.
