M18 R2 8 beeps/5 beeps post issues

Let me say my laptop was working fine prior to me taking it apart to figure out how to get to the LCD to replace it.

While on my redeployment home, which was a few weeks after my 1 year warranty expired I had to check my laptop briefcase  on the jet.  I ended up having some dead pixels that started out small than grew to silver dollar size.  So I just hooked up my 27" monitor up to and used it that way.

I finally have some money to replace the screen and I torn the laptop down this evening.  Once I figured out how to remove the lid and everything I went online to order a new one. In the process of putting my laptop back together and trying to power it on it started beeping.

I shut it off and turned it back on to count it as I knew it was post codes.  Then I googled it and found 8 beeps means lcd problem.  Dell had  a page saying to press FN and the power button.

I tried that...then it started 5 beeps.  So I looked up that code and saw it was the CMOS.  So I pulled the battery and shorted the jumper on the board.

Reconnect everything, hit FN+power and the laptop powers up for 3-5 seconds to shuts off just like the Dell page said it would.  After that, it either does 8 beeps or 5 after several attemps at clearing the CMOS.

What am I to do now?  I was hoping just to pay the $200 to fix my screen as I am moving overseas in a few months but now I am thinking Dell will have to fix it.

FYI,  I build and troubleshoot/fix computers so I have some knowledge.  I am just stumped right now so any help would be great.

Have you tried to dissemble everything again and put the parts back together?

I was frustrated that night so I stopped while I was thinking positively versus wanting to break my laptop.

I will try it this weekend.
