GPU Upgrade?
Hello, I have a Alienware Aurora (R4) which I purchased in 2013. The specifications are:
- Intel Core i7 3930K @ 3.20GHz (CPU)
- 16.0GB DDR3 (RAM)
- Alienware 07JNH0 (Motherboard)
- AMD 7950 w/3gb (GPU)
- 875W Power Supply (PSU)
I want to know what is the highest GPU I can upgrade to because I'm planning on upgrading. I want another AMD card because I'm planning on getting a freesync monitor so I want to take advantage of freesync. I have never upgraded a GPU before so I need a bit of help? Also my Motherboard is hovering around 80 degree celsius according to Piriforms Speccy, should I be concerned?
Thank you

For AMD GPUs, you can get a R9 Fury (X) or Nano. I think you could crossfire two R9 Furys or R9 Nanos, but not R9 Fury Xs (because of the fan). Should be a simple swap-and-play.
As for the motherboard temps, that's concerning. You might want to check how dusty it is inside and if the fans are operating as they should.

The R9 Fury has 2 x 8 pin ports on it, so check your PSU if you have two 8-pin connectors. If you don't have enough pins for it, you can either get pin adapters or get an R9 Nano which is less power consuming, runs at a similar price, and performs similarly too.
I'll just say that 80 C for the motherboard is hot. But are you sure it's the motherboard and not something else like the CPU or GPU?

So I can get a R9 Fury, do I have enough pins? And what temps should the motherboard be at?
Thank you

I just checked and I have a 6pin and a 6pin+2, can I just buy a adapter for just the 6pin or do I have to get one for the 6pin+2 as well? Also when I get the graphics card is it as easy as swap in and out or do I have to go into the bios or something like that as well?
As for the motherboard maybe it's reading it wrong, I cleaned the computer inside and out not to long ago.

Should be a swap since it's still an AMD GPU, but if you want, you can uninstall the AMD GPU driver before upgrading your GPU.
As for the adapter, just for the 6 pin.
I suggest getting HWMonitor or HWInfo and reporting it's temps on idle (doing nothing) and load (playing a game or something).
