Do any 2 TB 2.5 SATA drives exist/fit the Hard Drive bay of the M17x R4?

My M17x R4 drive setup consists of:

Primary Drive Bay - 256 GB Crucial M4 SSD
Secondary Drive Bay - 1 TB WD Scorpio Blue

I am running out of space on the 1 TB drive for games from Steam and Origin quite quickly. Unfortunately it seems the 2 TB 2.5 SATA form factor is rather rare, or for ones that do exist their thickness won't fit any 2.5 hard drive bays. Does anyone know of one that fits?

I would prefer to avoid external drives as that removes the whole portability element, my slightly hackish but alternative solution was to remove the DVD drive and put in another 1 TB drive and RAID 0 the two 1 TB drives together to gain the 2 TB capacity.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi James2k,

You should have no problem installing the hard drive. The 2.5 form factor is a standard and should not be different from other hard drives. I'm including the owner's manual in case you need it.

Hi Alexander,

Sorry the way I worded the thread may have been misleading. I'm aware that 2.5 drives will fit in the Alienware M17x R4 no problem! I am referring to specifically the 2 TB 2.5 form factor. The 2 TB part being the key. Every 2 TB drive in a 2.5 form factor (from what I've found) is quite thicker than normal hence it won't fit in the hard drive bay. They are advertised as 2.5 form factor but actually are quite thicker than the normal dimensions of say a 1 TB drive.

My main question is if any 2 TB 2.5 drives exist that will fit. As an example:

www.scan.co.uk/.../2tb-western-digital-wd20npvt-green-25-hdd-15-mm-sata-ii-3gb-s-intelli-power-8mb-cache

The thickness of this drive will mean it cannot fit in the bay. That's what I'm basically after.

I guess the other question is what are the hard drive bay dimensions of the M17x R4?

Thanks

I did a research on our Dell Site and found no 2 TB hard drives in a 2.5 form factor. Aside from this, I checked and we're not supporting those hard drives on our laptops yet.
