boot up errors - start pxe over ipv6 & start pxe over ipv4 - Dell Inspiron 17 5765
For the past several months I have had the problem where the laptop would suddenly and unexpectedly reboot itself. With working with Dell support the problem could not be resolved. So, recently Dell sent a tech to replace both the system board and hard drive. That seems to have resolved the rebooting problems - BUT - now:
If I connect to the Internet via wifi - I do not have any problems.
However, if I plug an ethernet cable into the laptop - in the process of booting up, I get the above errors: start pxe over ipv6 & start pxe over ipv4. Both errors can be bypassed by hit ESC - then Windows will start.
Dell tech and their escalation team has worked on this problem for hours but have been unable to fix it.
In Bios - disabling the Integrated NIC card makes the error message disappear - but it also disables the ability to use an ethernet cable connection to my router.
If you select f12 upon starting the computer and go into Disk Management - if you select to boot using HDD1 - Windows - you do not get an error message..
It seems the permanent solution would be to make the hard drive (HDD1) the first boot device. However, it seems on this laptop there is not a way to do that.
In the boot section of bios - under uefi you can highlight HDD1 but there is no way to permanently select it. If you do a F10 - save changes - it does not change anything.
Also - changing from UEFI to Legacy and changing the HDD1 to the first boot device does not fix the problem either.
Running extensive diagnosis does not show any hardware/software errors.
Any Ideas?

There should be a page in the Bios which mentions Boot priority or something similar. There, it may show the PXE options and a drive option. You can uncheck the PXE options but there is also an option on the Integrated NIC page for not allowing those options.
Have you made any changes to your SATA controller settings? It will depend on your configuration but on the 7567, setting the SATA to disabled stopped the system from seeing a PCIe drive.

Thanks for your suggestion, Saltgrass - and forgive me if this is a repeat. I replied to you once, but it seems my reply did not get saved.
Anyhow, thanks to your suggestions I went back into BIOS/BOOT. There was nothing listed as PXE. So, in frustration, I selected UEFI BOOT again. As usual, HDD1 was listed third.
I was able to highlight, but not select it. I knew HDD1 needed to be first. So, in seeing that none of the Dell Techs instructions/procedures worked - with HDD1 select I start pressing on arrow keys, etc.
Unfortunately, I do not know what I press - but something worked - I was able to move HDD1 to the top of the list and save the BIOS changes.
This appears to have worked.
Again, thanks for your suggestion. Now, the only thing I have to wonder about is: Why couldn't the Dell techs and escalation team able to tell me what needed to be done? :smileyfrustrated:
