x1052p - Console Drivers / Connect to Term Server
Hey everyone - very long time Dell customer first time poster (always seemed to be able to find answers until now).
I just got a Dell X1052p Switch and it comes with a Micro USB to USB Console Cable, I connect it to a Windows 7 Laptop and it is asking for drivers. One would think that the drivers would be right in the Download Section but there isn't any mention of drivers. Anyone know where I can find the drivers?
Also anyone know how I can connect this switch to a Terminal Server? This is the fist switch I've ever seen with a USB Port for Console and of course our Term Server is RJ45 to serial adapters.
I have to say that I've been using Dell Switches for years and this has been by far the most painful experience ever with this new GUI and lack of any substantial documentation.

I have personally not seen the switches connect to a console server such as the TrippLite. Usually the console is not used, and the management of the switch is done through the management GUI.
The user guide does say that the port can operate in USB mode (connected to a PC USB port) or in RS-232 mode (connected to a PC Serial port). But I believe the TrippLite uses RJ45 ports, correct? One possible solution would be to use a RJ45 to RS232 cable, and connect it to a USB to RS232 cable. Of course this is untested, and I have no way of knowing if it would actually work. But if you happen to have those cables available, you could give it a try.

Thanks for the response, Daniel. The main reason I wanted console access was two-fold: 1) It's very difficult to update the gateway IP from the GUI, and 2) I had one incident with an X1052 where it was totally inaccessible via IP - to be fair, I did access the console, and it convinced me I needed to do a factory reset on the switch, but that did give me some level of access which wasn't possible through the GUI.
We decided to return the TrippLite, not only for that reason, but also for general software issues, but I will try to see in the future if a USB-to Serial adapter might work. I did get a Cisco-type serial console to USB cable, and that did not work for me

The usb driver is included in the firmware package.

Like him, I have some X1052 and x4012 switches, and I would like to connect them to a TrippLite Console server, but the switches' console ports are USB-only, and my console server's USB port doesn't work for this purpose

The CLI is going to be the quickest and easiest method for changing the default gateway.
console(config)# ip default-gateway 192.168.1.1
Is your switch in L2 or L2+ mode? In L2+ mode you can configure a static route which directs traffic out to the default gateway.
Setting up Static Routes:
1.To configure static routes on the switch, make sure you are in Network Administration > Route settings > IPv4 Route Settings
2.Click Edit
3.Click Add
4.Destination IPv4 prefix is where you enter the Destination IPv4 Network address.
5.Enter the Network Mask of the destination network
6.Enter the Next Hop for the switch to know where to send the traffic to the destination
7.Click OK and the route will be added to the table.
The static route can then be edited later on if the gateway address changes.

No, the real question was :
"Who's idea was it to convert serial management port into micro-USB port?"
Who in his right mind wants to administer switches, remotely, through a Windows workstation ?
Tell me what's the price difference for the end customer between a 32 serial port console and a Windows-licensed workstation with 32 USB ports ?
NOooo... this "issue" is far from resolved.
