Area-51 R5, GPU Liquid Cooling Options
Just picked up an Area51 R5 and for the GPU options I went with a standard 1080 as I believe new GPU's are around the corner.
I noticed of the 'new' options for the R5 machines was the option to build the system with a water-cooled GTX 1080. In looking at the videos they appear to be using a closed loop 120mm fan/radiator combo. What I'd like to know is if Im able to upgrade my air cooled 1080 with an aftermarket closed loop kit so I can overclock it.
OEM Options:
- Does Dell publish the part number being used? if I can source the Dell part that is used when you buy the option this would be my first choice and its likely the best plug-and-play option.
Aftermarket Options:
- EVGA Hybrid - Looks like a decent kit but Id be concerned with fitment since aftermarket coolers are designed with reference cards in mind. Looking inside my machine the GTX 1080 doesnt look like a reference card. The shroud looks different. I could be wrong - Im open to hearing feedback from others.
Any other ideas or mods out there?

Hi @su_root,
This is an unofficial upgrade unless acquired directly with the PC when it was first bought. But you can call sales and check if they sell that part, here is the USA/CANADA phone number: 866 287 6727 opt#3.
It is likely to work, as long as the space is adequate. But we cannot guarantee functionality.
Also, the 1080 in your system is OEM so that's why it looks different from the reference card.

Actually, I think you will be happy with the GTX-1080 for some time, plus it's in a beast of a machine. :Cool:
That said, I don't think it would be hard to examine pics of how Alienware does it, and then duplicate it. The cards and new GPU-cooler option is likely a clone of some Asetek or some other:
