Updating Firmware on ESXi Hosts
Hi,
We are looking to upgrade our ESXi firmware, and I wanted to reach out to see if we need to do any prep work prior to pushing out these updates. Do we need to shut off all VMs on these hosts?
Also, we are pushing out these updates via iDRAC, and they are confirmed to be Out-of-band as per what I read to be recommended. Currently we are running on OME version 2.2.0.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi,
Which firmware updates are you doing? Some many need the host to reboot, so you may want to shutdown or migrate VMs prior to the update.

Hi Josh,
Thanks for your quick reply. We are doing a plethora of updates, alot of which require reboots like the Dell HBA330 Mini, Integrated Dell Remote Access Controllers and SAS Raid Firmware updates.
Since most of them require reboots, you are saying that either migrating them off or shutting them down is our best option correct?
Thanks,
Daniel
